If you look at this nifty but stupidly overpriced tool cart, you'll notice there are some little pivot hinges on the handles/collapse rails whatever you want to call them, they pivot on a 45 degree angle and allows for the rails to be locked straight vertical or horizontal. I'm trying to figure out what those little hinges/pivot joints are called and where to buy them.

And just to clarify, I dont own this cart and not looking for an exact replacement or anything like that. Just looking for this type of hinge/joint for another project.

a bargain :)

I don´t know what you are planning to do but maybe this works ?:

Or do you want a identical version like Hazet ?

Well, I have a few ideas in mind. A fold away handrail for my mother in law being one. But I like the one on the Hazet for the structural integrity it provides in both positions, especially for the handrail. I'd need something a little bigger than the one on the Hazet of course, just trying to figure out what that particular piece of hardware is called to shop for it.

I'd call it a button pivot, but I'm willing to bet you won't find it for sale. The market is just too limited. If you want to make one, I'd start with a reloading shell holder. That wil give you the button. RCBS makes a socket for them. It will still be a lot of fabbing.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll keep it in mind. Not sure it would be worth the effort. I was toying with the idea of fabricating it from wood. Then Peening a washer concave to fit around a ball stud for the joint. Then Epoxying it them in. But in the case of a hand rail it wouldnt be worth the effort. Maybe for something else if I get a wild hair lol.

Not what you are asking, but you mentioned a fold-away hand rail.

Yeah, there are available options for fold away hand rails, my problem is they're all ugly lol. Figured something using that pivot could be super sleek and really solid. No big deal. Was just hoping it would be a readily available piece of hardware. Doesnt look like it is though.

Just curious, since it's for your MIL, do you want the handrail to fold for space or is it supposed to be a suprise?
