I bought this little 3/8" S-K Tools set yesterday for $2 when prepping for our church garage sale. It has eight sockets 45112 3/8" through 45126 13/16" (missing the 45128 7/8"), 45159 1-1/2" ext., 45161 6" ext, 4426 13/16" spark plug socket, and 45170 ratchet. The box is 8-3/4" x 3-5/8" x 1-1/2". S-K made several sets, so which might this one be and when was it produced?

Looks like replacing the missing socket will make this set not the bargain anymore...

Nice find for 2.00

I see several decent used 12 point 7/8'' 3/8 drive sockets for cheap on ebay, low as 4.99 with free shipping. New old stock low as 8.00 with free shipping also. Would still be a good deal having only 7.00 to 10.00 total invested in your set. :)

Nice set. They made tons of sae/metric specific small sets back in glory days. The made them in all ranges from 1/4-1/2". $2 is a score.

Just checked my zip-lock bags of mismatched 3/8 sockets and no joy - I don't have what you need.

Nice find for 2 bucks - Cheers

Thanks y'all. The box is in very good shape, a few flakes of paint missing and paint worn off of the edges on the bottom, but no ding or dents. I'll scrub it good, wax it, and put it in my go bag. It's not the 4512 set though, as it is longer and definitely is missing the 7/8" socket (I see the wear marks on the plastic tray). Curious that S-K made 12 pc, 13 pc, and 14 pc sets.

OCD demands I replace the missing socket so thanks for the tips.

In 3/8 dr S-K made 3 SAE sets, 4512 [12 piece]; 4520 [20 pc] and 4527 [27 pc]. [No 13 or 14 pc sets]. The 4512 set had sockets that went from 3/8 to 13/16, no 7/8". In close to 40 years things do have a tendency to move around in the box.
Two sets were made in 3/8 dr metric, a 14 pc and a 24 pc.

Thanks Chopper1. Upon closer inspection, the 3/8 socket is "S-K Tools" and the rest of the pieces are "S-K" so it's already mix-n-match.

My box is larger than the 4512 box, it definitely has room for the 7/8 socket so I'll get that, replace the spark plug socket with a swivel, bag it, and call it good (this set will not be for car repair).

Was it common for sets to have a mix of 6 point and 12 point from SK or other brands ? What would be the point of that

I'm guessing back then it was common for the smaller sizes (maybe up to 1/2) to be 6 point and anything above that was 12. Perhaps they were concerned with strength of the sockets more than we are today?

I've got three boxes of misc S-K. One nearly complete set in a blow-molded box has 3/8"-1/2" in 6-pt 1/4"dr and 1/4"driver, space for a 1/4-3/8"dr adapter and a spark plug socket. The 9/16"-7/8" are 3/8"dr 12pt, as is the ratchet.

In the larger box I found an extra 45128, so to prevent your having an OCD attack, you can have your choice in S-K or S-K Wayne. What do you have to trade?

In fact, I'm buried in a basement and shop remodel and have decided all the extras need to go. Anyone interested in a great deal on this S-K lot, PM me. Not $2, but still some suckage.

I have S-K Dresser set #4224 of roughly the same vintage and it's an interesting little set. The spark plug sockets that came with it were knurled and the rest were the newer smooth type. Only a couple of the sockets had been used. I like the SK round heads.
