The bride gave me a Radio Shack intercom for my birthday. It works pretty well but seems to have a unidirectional microphone. That is, when on VOX, I have to be almost in a direct line with the unit to transmit if I'm more than 6 feet or so away. The most important reason she got this for me is in case of an immediate need for her attention in case a car falls on me or something like that. Under normal circumstances, this intercom will work fine. I can get close enuff to it & speak directly at it & the transmission is fine. However,in the case of an accident I may be immobilized & not able to position myself to make a transmission. We've discussed using a baby monitor. I want whatever we use to be wireless, have VOX, & have a more omnidirectional mike. Please share you ideas & experiences.

:lol_hittiIf a car falls on me the wife would be rich - I'm not sure she'd come running!!!

I usually just take my cell phone. If it's in your pocket you have it all - you can call the house, 911 - or your mistress - depending on how injured you are!!

Maybe it should be, "How injured you want to be."

I use the small hand held 2 way radios that they sell at walmart.
i keep mine at my side and the wifes is beside the phone.
It also comes in handy if the wife needs me for anything or if
i need a extra hand, i can call her.

I have my cell phone & wife & I have a pair of the little 2-way walkie-talkies we use when on club drives with other guys...I carry one with me in the garage & out & about on property.

You sure you wouldn't just rather have her hold your hand every time you leave the house??:bounce::lol_hitti

I like having my intercom, it kept the wife outta the garage, but let her tell me when dinner was ready!

Hmmmm. Come to think of it, I don't know that I've used it since I fired her... :headscrat

I bought a set of 3 panasonic cordless phones with the intercom feature. When they were new I could page the phone from about 150' away but you had to get closer to actually have a conversation.

If you get one of the new DECT 6.0 bandwidth cordless phones, they have a HEAP of range. We have an AT&T setup that has 4 handsets with charging bases. Each phone also has a pretty good speaker phone (there's your VOX). Not bad for less than $100.
