What's your favorite Rivnut size?

Just got my Rivnut tool from Maryland Metrics, mdmetric.com.
I figured 1/4-20 and 10-32 are probably a couple of the favorite sizes since that's what came in the kit, but any other sizes out there that might be common?

If I were to have one size I think I would have to vote for the 1/4 -20 Rivnut. You can accommodate a lot of needs with that size.

I just used some 3/8" 16 to mount my hose reals. I had to purchase a special tool to install them as well as a 17/32" drill bit.

Other than those 1/4" - 20 tpi is my most common.

I use a Marston rivnut tool for 1/4" nuts or less, and a tool like pictured above for 5/16 nuts. The Marston tool came with several different sized mandrels, so I didn't have to buy all the mandrels separately. Most all the bolt on items on my FFR Cobra were fastened with 1/4-20.

<style type="text/css">p { margin-bottom: 0.1in; line-height: 120%; }</style> My very limited run in with riv-nuts they will spin in the hole unless they are the hex style with the hex hole. Maybe they were put in wrong?

I've used tons of M8 on my Jeep (to replace factory ones that spun before the old fasteners let go)

1/4-20 for inserting into wood... not really rivnuts... the kind that screw in.

8-32 and 1/4-20 for rivnuts. I probably use ten times more 1/4-20. I have #6 and #10 but rarely use them, if ever.

How do you use a Rivnut http://www.rivet-nut.com/Rivnut_Fasteners.asp
in wood? Im thinking you're referencing a different product :dunno:

EDIT....Ahhh, sorry i see you qualified the statement, weird, my brain did not read that the first time..

Sorry for the confusion. I keep both sets of inserts in the same drawer in my toolbox so it was natural for me to comment on both the rivnuts and threaded inserts.
