Here is another of my favorite “unique” tool.

Not popular at all but an effective tool none the less.

Special pliers tool for tension springs removal and installation.

Ever try to replace or remove the door “Boot Seal & Spring” from a front load washer?!

It’s definitely a PITA!

This tool makes it a quick and east breeze to remove and re-install that special tension spring.

Some people either love it or hate it but RTV has it's place. These tube grip Valco handles are amazing if you use the squeeze tubes. I don't currently use enough to step up the the short caulking gun style. You can put tiny little beads around surfaces with ease, no hand shaking, and you can seriously use nearly the entire tube with almost no waste...certainly without it looking like a half used tube of toothpaste.

As others have previously stated, one of my favorite unique tool that I’ve now had for a few years is the Merry HS175C disconnect/connect plier tool.

Back then at the time I first came across them I was kinda skeptical about them but once I actually started to use them, that was it. I was hooked!

Glad I got them. You may not use them all the time but they sure do come in handy when called for and makes life a little bit easier IMHO.

not finding these on amazon yet :(

For people looking for a good ol' American Punch/Chisel Holder, I have this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001F74RFG/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Stanley Proto J2108.

I don't actually use it that much as I find it's just not as accurate as holding things with your hands, but if it's not something that needs exacting accuracy then it's great to have.

Those connector disconnect pliers are on my list to buy as are the clamptite tool. Thanks guys...the wife is gonna KILL me!

Also, to add to this thread:

I don't have this pair exactly, but any of the double-hinged needle nose/similar pliers are godsends when you have limited access/space and need to work on something deep down.

I never knew these existed and now I have to have them! In addition to all the auto applications these would totally come in handy when working on computers. Sometimes I run into stubborn motherboard and ATX power connectors in difficult areas with hardly any clearance.

Anyone familiar with these fuel line disconnect pliers? They look like they could also be used to disconnect those electrical connectors and they cost under $10.1573937620430463054817.jpg

There was a 10% discount automatically applied when I added these to my cart. Win!

Shipping was $6.30 but no taxes, total was about $40 all-in.

Dammit, I wanted one too but it looks like that vendor doesn't have em anymore. Nothing comes up for me with that link & can't find them searching their site.

Everything on Amazon & ebay is $50 & up, all shipping from Japan, & I have to pay tax because of the internet tax **** that just kicked in for my state.

Well I ordered them from what looks to be directly from Nile/Merry. $24 & a 10% coupon (SALE10) with surprisingly no tax but their cheapest shipping is $20. Still puts me $41 total so I'm happy. Their address shows they are in OH. I hope they are legit (I've never heard of them) & ship from OH.

Currently an MC Cable cutter.

I was a bend, break and cut with dikes guy. It's fast and easy. But using push-on connectors was sometimes a PITA.

I now focus more on quality v. speed and as an amateur DIY guy, not a pro, I can afford the slight time penalty. These cutters provide a fast, easy and very clean cut:

As a bonus there is little risk of scoring the wire jacket on a jagged edge.

At it's current asking price for that Merry tool, this definitely is a damn good deal (that is "if" the website is legit?).

Hopefully they won't come back with the dreaded message response that..."its on back order BS".

a tool and THEN a shopping tool

The Fein Multimaster is right up there for me. I know there are other brands, but when you need it there are no substitutes.

The other tool - and everyone on GarageJournal who shops on Amazon should use this is Keepa - Amazon Price Tracker(I think Camelcamelcamel does similar stuff). Anyway, the price history charts are about the only thing I have learned to use. But they have saved me a lot of money on a variety of tools, etc.
Or maybe, they have cost me a huge amount of money because I thought I was getting a great price on stuff that I did not need. :lol_hitti

I ordered the wiring clip pliers from Frankstools on Sunday and paid $7 for priority shipping. According to the status, it's not shipped 4 days later. I've also sent two emails asking for an update with no reply from him.

Is this one of those sellers who's just flaky and it'll randomly show up in my mailbox? Or did I get taken?

Edit: Frank got back to me. He sent the pliers, just didn't update the order status.

Yes, the Merry (Muromoto Tekko) connector pliers are awesome. It's been saving my fingers and my sanity for many years now. I've used it on other things as well. A couple years ago I got another one from KTC, which comes with 3 different tip styles.

I agree. I was given one of these about 25 years ago by a vendor and at first I thought it was a gimmick. After I started using it I was sold. It works great and allows you to use all of the RTV that you purchased.

Mine didn’t ship for a few days either. Received mine 7 days after I ordered them. Haven’t used it yet but it seems like a quality tool.

Bernard/Schollhorn/Sargent/Maun style parallel jaw pliers.
The style has been around for 100+ years, but there have never been huge numbers of companies making them.
The style is just usefull as general purpose pliers, but do to higher cost and the niche factor the style is just less known and used.

I'm not sure it counts as a specialty tool but I love my Astro belt file. Awesome tool for removing spot welds and cleaning up weld beads. If it didn't eat Cubitron belts like candy I would hardly use anything else for grinding.

I have 6 or more ASTRO cut-off air tools and they work just fine. I always wanted a DYNABRADE grinder/cut-off pneumatic. When I saw one on Amazon for just over $100cdn, I bought it. This tool is fantastic. I have seen this tool advertised for over $400cdn.

Knipex Mechanics pliers, don't use them often but when you need them they're a lifesaver:

But my favorite are Engineer pliers, they work every time for raised head screws:
