I'm getting a single drawer roll cart and was wondering what tools most people use daily. I have a pretty good idea of what I will put in it just wanted some input. I tried a search and found nothing about most used tools. If there is a post already please put a link.

Thanks, robert

It obviously depends on what you work on. If you work on an oil rig it's unlikely that your
most used tools would be a 1/4" socket set and likewise of you're a scooter technician
it just as unlikely your most used tools will be a 2" drive air impact set.

I'm a DIYer just working on my car and my families cars and I would seem that no matter
what kind of job I do on them the 3/8" drive socket set always seems to make an
appearence.

I would guess that if you're a pro working on cars the 3/8" impact set would be very
well used.

Working on hydraulic lines and large fittings, the dead blow works great to get some painless impact for tight fittings. Can also be used on tight fittings on a pump or something else that cant be tied down easily, and it just makes things quicker to disconnect and less fatigue.

I guess an impact would work just as well, but you said most used. I think wrenches are usually more versatile but I do also keep my 3/8 impact with 16 and 18mm swivel sockets nearby. That gets used quite a bit also.

I would have to say wrench sets and 3/8 sockets would be the main course in my one drawer cart. Maybe a ballpeen hammer if you have room, maybe a couple screwdrivers you find yourself using most.

3/8" sockets sae, long handled ratchet and standard handle, various extensions. wrenches sae, couple screwdrivers or the ratcheting drivers.

1/4" sockets sae, socket head racheting driver(love that thing). various extensions.

hammer, 1/2" impact and sockets sae. really rather a 3/8" but havn't bought yet.

pliers, wire cutters, channel locks, needle nose. and a hose pinch plier.

metric doesn't come up too often and usually its small like a 10mm or a 19mm rarely.

1/4" metric sockets & ratchets
3/8" metric impact sockets & ratchets
metric wrench set of some variety
lug nut sockets & torque sticks
maybe hang impact guns & 1/4" air ratchet off the side?
And most of what Mattman said, though I'd probably pick linemans and needlenoses for pliers.

I work out of a small van and dont have much space, leaning in and out of the van to get to stuff is a pain. My solution to this is have my most often used stuff stuck on magnets/or in easy to grab trays as close to the side door as I can get them. It depends on what you work on (I,m a Brit so mostly metric).

1. I have 4 combi spanners 10/13/17/19mm in a tray, I also keep a 10mm gearwrench

2. Side cutters/needle nose/combination pliers on a mag rail

3. 15/17/19/21 deep impacts on a mag rail/my Cordless impact and breaker bar live close by

4. a ratchet screwdriver and standard bits/torx/hex bits

5. My rechargeable LED lamp

6. Leather/copper faced hammer (this is all I use now)

7. I have 3 T handles with deep 8/10/13mm ready to go (I use these as much as possible for speed when removing pencil coils etc where an impact is too aggressive they are also great for engine covers and under-trays and the battery never runs flat :))

8. a small 1/4 drive socket set and a small 3/8 socket set (I keep a 3/8 spinflex with these and some extra extensions with wobble drives and 3 magnetic spark plug sockets

9. My DVOM with load-pro leads attached/DC current clamp/Midtronics

10. clic/clic r pliers and some of those hose clip pliers with a bowden cable to get at tricky clips.

11. I keep my set of 3 extra long needle nose pliers close by.

12. I then have a tray with various stuff I use, like tyre gauges/hub cap pullers/pry bar/thread file/caliper file/spark plug gapper/pocket screwdriver/wire brush etc.

I have lots more stuff on the van but I keep these items close by

I don't have a cart, but I do begin everyday by pulling a few of my go-to tools out to go on top of my box or in my pockets. Most of what I use is unique to my occupation, so I'll only mention what could benefit you as an auto tech:
-1 standard handle 3/8 ratchet + 3 of the most common shallow sockets
-10" Knipex Cobras, Channellock 440s
-pocket screwdriver and a good sized, beat to hell straight blade
-a pick set
-flash light
-note pad

coffee cup w/lid
spare lighter, mag light, lock blade knife, cell batt
paper pad, mech pencil, pen, sharpie
box of rags, spray carb cleaner

almost forgot tools - cheater pipes, pry bars, bf hammers/sledges, 36" ridgid adjusters

flashligh, 3/8 long w/flex head ratchet, 3/8 metric impact shallow swivels, and 3/8 metric socket set. my favorite tool is the 3/8 mini cordless snap on impact gun, time saver.

Damn, this list is all over the place!

To the OP; Any reason you're going with a 1 drawer instead of a larger cart?
Asking because I can't even imagine trying to cram my daily use tools in one drawer, I have a hard enough time packing the daily tools in my 4 drawer cart with a prybar box on the side...

A day in my garage never ends without using a 9/16" or 14mm combo and needle nose pliers at least once. You have to have a pair of 420 Channellock's in there as well. I think it's like an OSHA requirement or something? JK, but you do want them in there. I dunno what you're working on, but if you're trying to cram a lot of capability into a small cart you might consider an 8" Crescent wrench. Don't get a Chino Crescent though. Get yourself a Proto Clik-Stop model.

Single most used tool?

No question, #2 Phillips

Mine happens to be a craftsman pro, but only because I don't want to spend a lot of money on something I'm likely to accidentally send for a swim (working on boats, that's always a risk)

Bit driver with phillips and small hex socket bits. But then I'm a computer repair tech, so the only hand tool I use every day is the phillips head...

When wrenching on the cars, I'd say it's a tossup between 3/8" ratchet and sockets, and ratcheting box end wrenches.
