I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. I've bought so many hand tools recently and just today more came in the mail. I .. can't stop, even though I try. Here's what I bought in the last few months:
SK stubby SAE 7 set
SK stubby Metric set
SK box end 3/8-7/8
Proto open end 5/16-7/8
Proto angle 3/8-3/4
SK and Proto flex head combination wrenches 7/16-9/16
SK 1/4 drive set SAE and metric, big set, cost me about $200 after discount
additional SK flex head 1/4 inch drive ratchet
single SK sockets 5/8 to 1 inch
Craftsman sockets 1 inch to 1 1/4
Craftsman jumbo SAE wrenches 1 inch to 1 5/16
ratcheting screwdriver set
Metric and SAE feeler gauges
SAE allen socket set
10 piece Whitworth combination wrench set
mixed BA wrenches and sockets
Dutton lainson oil cans pint and quart size
grease gun
mixed adjustable and mole type wrenches
assorted vintage Bonney long combination wrenches
Bonney 3/8 drive breaker bar
Bonney 1/4 drive T handle
special inspection cover and valve adjustment tools for old motorcycle
also extra spark plugs, gaskets, fibre and copper washers for old m/c
special 13/16 spark plug box spanner
I had most of what I bought already but mainly Taiwan made fairly cheap stuff, and now I can't help but turning my nose up at it. I want the good stuff dammit.
Problem is I'm not done yet, I still need Whitworth offset box end set and Whitworth sockets. And all the above will only set me up to work on my old Triumph motorcycle. Then I have an old Lambretta scooter, so I have to keep going with metric wrenches. I sit in my leather chair at night, and take my most recent shiny chrome purchases and I chill out with a beer or a whiskey while inspecting them. I tell my wife they're like jewelry to me in a way and mumble to myself about how nice they are, my wife looks at me like I'm a little crazy. I lie to her about what they cost, these were only a little over $50 I say, and then keep mumbling about how smooth and shiny they are.
After all this I realize there's no way I can fit all I want to into the little tool bag on my old bike, so I've been trying a lot of different combinations to get them in there, so I have to prioritize over what to bring along and what to leave at home.
See the little leather tool bag, that thing is stuffed with tools, it gives me a very caveman-esque feeling of satisfaction.
I've been watching the Snap On tool box the little red one that's cool as hell, for sale on ebay, you know the one, it will be mine I tell myself. But then it's like a little fairy god mother says "No, you don't need that" but a different bad fairy god mother says "Hell, yes, you do need that".
You guys know what I'm talking about right?
