I got to thinking on another post. what is your ultimate tool? could be anything from a ratchet, to a bottle opener to even a helicopter if you use it like that.

for me, its gotta be a lull, or telescoping lift. those things are awesome. i was introduced to them through my landlord who owns about 20 of them and rents them out through his diesel shop. anytime we need something lifted, we grab a lull. they certainly get the job done no matter what.

Pretty normal...but I'd have to say my most used tools are my Makita 18v Impact, and my edc Fenix PD32 light.

I have a Lull 844C-42 and I love it. 8,000 pound lift capacity up close and it reaches out 42 feet with a 250 pound load. I have a small man basket and it comes in handy for trimming trees!

The feature I really like is that in addition to the telescoping boom the whole boom unit is on a carriage that moves 6 feet fore and aft on the main frame. Imagine having to put a pallet of material into a door or window 20 feet in the air. With the Lull you maneuver the pallet just outside the opening with the boom/telescope and then insert it by rolling the carriage forward.

The only drawback to these is that even with the all-wheel steer (and crab steering) you need plenty of room to maneuver them around compared to a conventional forklift. But you won't be able to take a conventional forklift the places a Lull will go!

You could have just showed off your boom like you wanted to without the thin veil of asking GJ a question about tools. Give us a little more credit than that.

Ha, it would have to be my Miller Dynasty 200DX, Miller Passport, or HyperTherm PowerMax 45!

Yup... Very common. I use my construction fork lift for all kinds of things. I put up trusses with it. I put drywall up and sheeting goods unt second and third floors or roofs. I have pulled engines with it and used it to pull cars and trucks out of the ditch. I have used it to hold up buildings when I put in a new beam and I have used it to put in huge steel I beams. It has saved me thousnads of hours and it is my go to cherry picker. I have a picker but use it to move small bench top lathes and machines in my shop and second hand store. I have use it to lift up the side of my boat trailer to pack the berings and change wheels. My lift has a boom arm and is so handy. I have used it to load small tractors and my dune buggie onto trailers. I load machines on trucks and have used it to turn around construction trailers so they can't be towed away. The Case lift is the best thing I own. I have used it to load boats into a river or lake. I did not have a dock or ramp and it was the only way to get the boat in the river.
I have even used it to take machines and heavy things off of delivery trucks as well as load cargo trucks. Everyone needs a ****** lift. LOL
Forget all the other tools. They don't count. LOL

My brain.. cant believe this hasnt been used. Yeah I understand the question... I dont have anyone tool that gets used more than others. I have plenty of tools that rarely see use but I also have tools that see a lot of use daily like my 3/8 ratchet and guns, my 1/2" impact and my wrenches. Nothing is standing out as my one tool I go to more than any other. Maybe my flashlight lol, that gets used for almost every job.

An A-10 warthog.

Disclaimer: I was never in the military, but I would give all my appendages to blow some $h=t up in one of these.

To my understanding, they built this huge *** cannon- A 30 MM CANNON- and decided to build an airplane around it. The thing is abundantly overbuilt, stupidly overpowered and it can fly on half a wing with one engine missing. Well, half a wing or one engine missing, but I'm willing to bet it could do both in the hands of the right pilot. Oh, and the cannon? It's fixed mounted. The pilot has to aim the nose in the direction it wants to demolish - well anything. For some reason, i just absolutely love these things. And that, my friends, is my ultimate tool. Just flat out power and tough with some wings slapped on the sides.

As an IT consultant, my most-often used and probably most valuable tool is a keyboard, or more generally, a personal computer. An extension to that would be the Internet. Frankly, the Internet is the most revolutionary tool invented in the past century.

Sorry, I know, boring answer.

I think any/all of my measuring tools - starting with the humble silver tape measure. This is followed closely by my speed square, then regular square then my Incra rulers and T-rulers, then my vernier slide caliper.

A sharp pencil or scribe doesn't hurt either.

I also really like and always seem to use my Rockler Bench Cookies....

Then an endless amount of various clamps.

My Chevy C-30 truck with 17' aluminum Jerr-Dan Roll Back car carrier bed w/Ramsey winch.

This has saved me more lifting, pulling, tugging, etc. than anything I've ever owned.

From hauling good or junk cars, to heavy heat pumps, moving furniture, pulling trees outa' the ground, a mobile adjustable scaffold, heavy engine parts lifter and when at the stock car races in the infield an adjustable height viewing stand.

Don't think I could ever be without one.

AND, you can also make $money$ with it. But you have to learn to say "NO" to buddies that want to borrow it. I will haul stuff for them so long as they fuel the thing up. At 10 mpg, it's 454 engine is thirsty.
