What's your work day?

As I right this it's 4am, and I can't sleep. I Just got home from a service call, which got me to wondering what hours some of you guys work, regardless of your job.

Mine is usually 10hrs, 7am-5pm, with every 4th weekend and week on call over night.

During a big project a while back, we were working 7am to 11pm or later 6 days a week, and driving an hour each way.

A buddy of mine routinely puts in. 100hr weeks.

What hours do you guys keep?

Re: What's' your work day?

10-11 hours five days a week for me. Start at 7am. When it snows more than 6 inches I could work 12-14 hours.

8:00-5:00 working 10 on 4 off. On call every fifth week and O/T as necessary, which is usually 8 hrs or so during the winter and up to 20 or so in the summer. I commute an hour to work and the same back making the day a little longer.

Re: What's' your work day?

I leave my house somewhere between 7:30-8:00 am depending on how in depth my first service call seems to be and get home anytime between 7:30pm and 9:00 usually...

I only work Wednesday-Saturday though so the 3 days off makes up for the long days.

I work 6:00am-3:30pm most days. Some days I am teaching classes to the shop floor team members as well as doing my day to day engineering job then I am usually in at 6:00am and out at 5:00pm to cover all three shifts. It varies but usually ends up around 45-50hrs/week.

Perhaps you are an older version of myself? I, too, work 10 hour shifts (6AM-4PM) Monday through Thursday. I'm in industrial maintenance, repair, and machining (textile mill).

I quite like my work, though I'm about to take a better job elsewhere. I take TONS of overtime -- as much as I can get; doesn't matter if it's 2 hours working while someone is late or pulling a full double shift (20 hours!) if someone's not coming in, I'm all over it. I work about 2 Fridays a month and, infrequently, I'll work a Saturday or Sunday.

Retired!
I did the work thing for 45 years with no break. Now I start my morning with a nice hot cup of coffee and decide from there what my schedule for the day will be.

Re: What's' your work day?

Midnights from 2200-0700. 5 on and 3 off with every few weeks a 2 day break instead of 3.

Been on mids for 5 years and like it cause I can still get things done during the day.

Retired now, but the last 13 years of my employment, I was in my office by 6:30am 5 day a week, and left at 5pm almost every day.

8'ish to 5-6'ish, usually 9-10 hour days depending on what needs done but sometimes 11-12 hour days, always 5/wk. I usually average ~60 hours/wk and theres no such thing as over-time bc Im salaried.

Re: What's' your work day?

I roll in anywhere from 7 am to 9 am and leave 8 hours later, paid lunch, paid breaks. I am on call 24/7/365 so I get a take home car. I usually only get called out maybe 3 times a year; maybe 4.

I can adapt my schedule as needed. Not too bad.

Re: What's' your work day?

Monday and Friday are my usual "sleep late" days, 0700ish wake up. Start work at 1400 to 2200 hours. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, up at 0545 to be at the morning job at 0800 to noon (or out earlier if things are slow) then to my regular job after lunch. Saturday is the same start, but usually off in the afternoon (unless I'm called in to my regular job, then it's 1500 to 2300.) Sunday is up at 0545 to open the store at 0800, close at 1700 then home. It would be nice to have some "me" time.

My wife and I run a small lawn maintenance business. We work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Normally we kill the coffee pot at home and leave the house by about 10:30. We're usually home by about 5:00. Then Its happy hour.

I guess that makes me semi-retired.

Worked 4 10s when I worked for someone else. Now I try to make it to the shop by 8:30 and usually go home around 6:30 or 7. 5, sometimes 7 days a week. Sometimes I'm here until 9 or 10. Depends on the job. I get to pick and choose my jobs, though. It's nice working for yourself sometimes. If I get offered a nice position with good bennies, I would probably take it though and just do customer jobs in the evening.

Av 42 hrs a week.
If you can't earn a decent living in under 50 hrs per week, then time to change jobs.
