Did the sun up til sun down job working heavy equipment repair. Finished my education and now I have a 40hr/wk job. I have a few side things going but recently dropped my lawn business. I got in the habit of working 60+ hr weeks and stuck with it even when I didn't need to. My son is two years old and I realized I missed most of that being selfish and out of greed. When we found out my wife was expecting number 2 I decided it was time to get my priorities in line. In actuality I consider my self blessed to have realized this now and not later in life. All I need is enough for my family, toys come second now.

Shredding and Recycling. Other than my hours 8-5 M-F, the only thing I have constant is my student worker's schedule and the number of daily bins we have to hit. The number of and amount contained in the daily recycling call-ins always varies. We might fly through the call-ins and bins... but generally we don't.

Re: What's' your work day?

Retired!
I did the work thing for 45 years with no break. Now I start my morning with a nice hot cup of coffee and decide from there what my schedule for the day will be.

sounds like my schedule, ain't it great?............been retired now for 5 years, when I first retired i thought if i could work maybe 1 or 2 days a week that would be great...........heck now i work at my son's shop one day every other week and thats to much........lol

Asking what my day is like is like asking which way the wind is blowing. It changes all the time. I work anywhere from 5-14 hours and start duty anywhere from 6am to 6am, (24 hours a day). It makes it hard to get on a good sleep schedule. But I get paid well and have good benefits so it could be worse.

Always at the very least 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, sometimes 7. The last 17 years I have averaged about 90 hours a week. For the 10 years before that I averaged 70 hours a week. Not for the faint of heart.

6:45a-3:15p 5 days, but it's most likely Saturdays and Sundays as well, on call with no particular schedule as business requires.

Averages out at 8hrs/day 5 days/week. Mon - Fri 7am - 3pm one week, 2pm - 10pm the next - every 4th 2-10 week I also do the weekend as I'm on-call that week - then get the following Mon/Tue off.

Sometimes have to do overtime. If the usual guy covering on-call is unavailable I'll fill-in for him (we get an allowance for being on-call so I do it as often as possible).

Nature of the job means hours have to be flexible, few weeks back arrived for a 7am start on the Sunday - eventually went home 7am the next day!

Middle of nowhere.
Try to do 12 hours every day M-F. 08:00 - ? every other weekend. My boss the owner knows my mind works a little different so if I'm on something, I might work all night.

Kids say I worked to much and was gone to much. So in the last couple of years I have worked hard to be around more. But I see my "little girl" doing what I did. Pulling 40 hours in FRI-SAT-SUNDAY and a full time student.

Going to have to do a shift bid soon; not sure what I'll end up with, but it should be reasonable.

I don't like commuting in heavy traffic so I don't want a later shift, and I can still get stuff done in the afternoon too. So I'll aim to get something similar.

I set one alarm on vibrate so it doesn't wake any family up, and another for loud so it gets me up just in case. :D Too bad my getting up wakes baby up anyway. :(

Rotating 12 hour shifts 0630 - 1830. Works out to be 14 days on and 14 days off every 28 days, work 2 weekends, off 2 weekends. Been doing some kind of rotating schedule since 1979.

M-F 0800-1630 then sort of on call 24-7. As our agency's driver of all things, I get called out regularly. Drive and setup the Mobile Command Post, drive the armored vehicles, it is never boring.

Commercial/industrial HVac mechanic for Trane. I roll out the door @ 6am 5 days a week. I return the same day. That is about as specific as I can get.

M-F 8:00 to 3:00 No weekends and on call every 4th month with usually less then 4 call in per month. Life is good, I can drop kids off at school and pick them up after. Not every one gets that opportunity. As a bonus the building I work at is a block from my kids school.
