What's your workbench look like?

Made this 4 piece bench out of birch ply (lower cabinets) and some re-purposed Maple (top) locker room benches... base trim is re-purposed maple gym floor.

My workbench is under construction. It's 22' long with 5 foot cabinets top and bottom on both ends of the bench (well, going to be cabinets when completed) with a 12' workbench in between.

I know, I know, why did I make it out of pipe......the pipe was F R E E

The cabinets will be divided in the center. I am going to put 1/8 inch steel on the outside and on the cabinet doors. Workbench will have a 3/16th top on it. Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics. I was to busy to come in and grab the camera.

Added an extension for my Makita table saw

Gotta lose the extension. The weight out on the is just too much. I'm getting a lot of flex and can't keep the saw table flat to the workbench top. Going to make a separate base for the table saw and another for my miter box. Luckily all the steel is free and it's only taking time and labor to rebuild the workbench.

Finished my table saw base. Made from scraps in the rusting pile out back. Like most things it's a little over built. That's my wife doing the Vana White thing. She doesn't look to happy about posing after a day of grinding and welding. Got the wire wheel stuck in my shirt again. Third time in a year, just as the last scar was fading away.

Here's one. The top is 2" maple. I put the angle iron border around it to be able to bend sheet metal over the edge (before I got a brake). There is a socket on one end to hold sheet metal shaping stakes and dollies.

I have a bench virtually right around the 40 x 40 part of my 40 x 80 workshop.

Full of junk etc at the moment as I am doing a spring clean and moving/sorting stuff.
Excuse the mess.

Also have 4 steel framed tables on wheels.
And 2 mezzanine floor areas for storage.
One 300 sq/ft and other 750 sq/ft.

Nice lead sled. Do they have Mercury's in New Zealand? I know Ford has plants in Australia.

All Mercury and Lincolns were imported from the USA either new or in later years like mine.
Actually mine is a '49 Lincoln. I brought it in from Miami 3 years ago.
They used the Merc bodies but the front was stretched 4 inches for the big block flattie. I have a 500 cu/in Caddy in mine and Jag front & rear.

I'm amazed at how many of you have garage shops that look like your in there every day. With work and 3 boys running us ragged from baseball and soccer every weekend, I just don't have as many hours available. How do you do it? No job? No kids? No wife? What's the deal?

Wife is busy with work & the garden.
So I keep out of her way and in the workshop when I can.

What type of racking did you use for your workbench frame and do you have any pics with the top off? I am curious about your toolbox integration. I plan to build in some HF boxes in my benches and am working on the frame design.

Steevo - My bench top basically sits on a pallet rack. The horizantal pallet rack peices are about 7' long. I cut down the 2 vertical pallet rack end peices so that the total height of the bench when assembled is about 36". Other than to fasten my vice, I used no hardware to put the bench together.

The bench top is 10' long and 30" deep and is made of 1/8" steel. It has a 4" lip up at the back and a 4" lip down at the front. I cut 30" lengths of 2" x 10" wood and laid them on top of the pallet rack front to back. The steel bench top is pretty heavy but I managed to lever it up to where you see it. The bench top simply sits on top of the wood. It has been there for the last 20 years (10 in it's former location) and it hasn't budged.

The 3 tool cabinets are low end International brand roller cabinets without the casters. I have yet to build a level stand for them to sit on but that will be pretty straight forward to do. I also plan to bolt them together. The overhang on each end allows me to store my stool at one end and a portable back up compressor at the other. What's also nice is that there is about 2" of flat storage space above the cabinets and below the horizantal peices of the pallet rack. It's great for storing flat items like cutting boards, soft pads, long pry bars, etc.

Overall this has been a great bench. It's sturdy, has lots of storage space underneath and can knock down easily if I have to move it. I picked up the pallet racking for free and only paid about $75 for the top so other than the cabinets I have very little money in it. I should have taken pictures when I put it together but it went so fast I didn't have time!

V-10 Killer inspired me to upgrade my plain 4x4+plywood top to a fully painted vinyl topped (used ribbed vinyl from Home Depot) plus aluminum edging, finished it up last night, love the result. Tomorrow I'm getting 2x54"x24"x12" shelves to go over this and my engine hoist (to the right of the bench). I'm going to paint them black to match the bench:

Thank you! The top is two pieces of 1x10x8 whitewood board, there is a stud in the center joining them as well as being the mount for the T8 light
