Where in Ireland are you? Got to visit Ireland this year. Was able to rent a motorcycle for the day in Dublin and go to the Wycliffe hills :)

Thats a different wall approach. Nice touch. It threw me off and and I thought it was the tool shadows at first.

I'm based in Kildare just South of Dublin, took me a while to figure out what the heck Wycliffe was and then realised you mean Wicklow hills! I do a lot of downhill mountain biking in Wicklow it's a beautiful place.

There are those that work ON their shop, and those that work IN their shop... Unfortunately I fall into the latter category, that's why I can't get close enough to my bench to take a picture...

Not entirely done yet but I'm using it. Going to put about a 3' length of 3/8 plate on the end with the blacksmith vise on it and plane the surfaces down so it's flush with the other end. Also have to fasten the leg on the vise and tidy things up a bit on the ends. Anvil will be moving onto a block of elm. Only things I didn't already have on hand were the consruction adhesive and threaded rod for putting the oak, elm and ash together for the surface.
Been accused of overkill by my wife which is obviously just slanderizing and blashpemy.

I posted this in fabrication a few weeks ago, its spruce that I milled last year with sapele keys in the top, the two leadscrew vise is red oak. It is for my woodworking projects my regular bench is a bit more crude.

^^^That is Cool^^^

I like the gear drive, what did you cut the gears with and how much abuse can they take. Look like you are into wood working only and would not normally tighten down on a project as much as a metalic or automotive project.

Awesome gear drive table ! :3gears: Great table too ! You must have good tools and equipment to work with. The right bench makes it sooooo much easier!

The gears are red oak and the vise is only for wood the piece camped in it will not move, it gets tight.

The gears were cut on my cnc router with a simple gear cutting program.
http://woodgears.ca/gear/index.html

The program allows printing for those who want to manually cut them.

I do metal work too and may design some furniture incorporating both, I just milled 600 board feet of maple have to find a use for it.

That's awesome. Great job on the table and gear drive vise. Where did you get your inspiration? Another project, plans, or was it an idea you just came up with?

I just came up with it, traditional woodworking vises usually do not run the whole length of the bench. I got the gear program a while ago and thought it would be a great application to use it on.

Half the fun is figuring things out.

The bench was just going to have a plain top, but while I was surfacing the top boards on the CNC router I decided to cut the keys while it was on the machine.

-Gorilla racks painted red under a yard sale laminate counter top.
-Retail style metal wire racking on the wall to hang tools from.
-Overhead shelf
-Still working on the tool organization, and it needs lights under the upper shelf.

I was on a mind-numbing conference call a short while ago and began perusing garagejournal...came across this thread, opened it up...read your comment Steevo....and I then suddenly busted out laughing. My phone was not on mute.

It was a very awkward moment. Thanks alot Steevo.

That's not overkill, DaleK. You never know when you might need to put a full-grown adult African elephant on your workbench.
