I'll try to revive this thread then. Here is mine. I'm not finished yet, but I'm getting close. It is all kodn dried pine. I ripped the top pieces from 2x10s about 2 1/2" thick and glued them together after running them through the planer. The legs are 4" wide, and 3" thick (two pieces glued together. Next, I cut out for the base's cross members, and used 5/8" dowels and glue to hold everything together. It will get several coats of BLO, and then an outlet strip on the back. My vintage Craftsman woodworker's vise will go on the left front.

The last picture shows the maple topped workbench that I built my pine workbench on. It is too high, so I lowered mine to about 34". It is 73" long, and 24 1/4" wide.

4x4 legs, 2x4 frame, 2 layers of 3/4" plywood tops all assembled with deck screws. Connected to the studs with 3'' screws and it's solid as a rock.

My old workbench, rebuilt, having accomplished it's first task since being rebuilt.

Slathering Anchorseal onto a hunka redwood burl.

So many great benches posted here.

I have a small attached garage so I needed something mobile and on the small side...46"x24". I built it from 80% recycled material... primarily made from torn down play structure and pallets. New wood for door frames, drawer fronts, and "seconds" pine toung and groove for sides and back. It sits on casters with lifting mechanism. The top is 1x1 tube frame and 1/8" sheet metal over 1" marine plywood. It is finished with chalk paint and stain glaze to give it a worn look.

So I have four workbenches in my shop. At the moment, two are in pretty good shape and two need cleaned off. That's par for the course around here.

First one has my frankenstein grinder on one side and a Wilton C1 and cheapo Craftsman drill press on the other. Just got the pegboard relatively organized this past week.

Second one I got from my uncle's estate a couple years back. Cordless tools on top, mainly automotive electrical stuff hung on its pegboard. It's currently a catch all until I organize some more.

Third one used to be a shelf and had a shelf on top of it. One day decided to tear the top shelf out and make another bench out of it. Just mounted my swivel jaw Parker 273 to it yesterday.

Last one is one me and my dad built years ago. It currently home to my fastener organizers, thread checkers, and plenty of hardware i havent organized yet (as well as a Stihl trimmer that needs the carb gone thru).

This is what I did in my garage addition. Thanks to employer for the free donation of the shelving and materials. There is also a small shelving unit just out of pic.

Temporary workbench while I'm waiting for the steel one I was given to get here. Organizing my shop as I just finished the structure and am bringing in all the stuff that's been in storage or outside collecting rain/rust.

Here's the lovely Donna, pointing out the new in 2011 workbench. The bench made it's way to Napa and back home over the last 5 years.

Now back to it's original garage. Please note the work bench has developed a nice patina with 5 years of use, indoors and out.

All part of the 2017 garage clean up and referb. Not putting that "done by the first of the year" pressure on myself, it might roll in 2018. :bounce:

I just recommended this thread to a new member but then realized I never shared my own bench.

I went with a the approach of creating the most usable-but-smallest-footprint I could come up with. The bench takes up 8 square feet and it's a lot faster to clean up than my old benches, which were larger and always cluttered and messy. When this when is a mess it takes 5 minutes to clean it up.

It's made from 2' deep pallet racking that I chopped up to use. The top is 1/4" steel I had bent. I would've gone thicker but the cost was prohibitive. The height is nearly 43", which has been perfect for me.

The charger mounted above the bench has been great. It's something that added to the disorganization before. As well, the timed outlet has been another great addition. I got the idea from a member. I wish I remember who because I'd love to thank him. It's one of my favorite features of my remodel.

This is my common tool holder made from UniStrut.

In the beginning I had coated it with paste wax but I left a rag with muriatic acid near it and the wax was no match for flash rusting and some corrosion. So, I cleaned off the wax, sanded some spots and heated and quenched it with oil. No issues since.

An air drop right above the bench. Haven't had too any need for it, yet.

Brent, that's a great idea for making a bench. I may very well follow your lead with one of my own. I've also been thinking about building something to put my air compressor pump/ motor on p off the floor. I'm looking into pallet racking.
Thanks :rocker:

Thanks, C2V. It was an easy (and fairly inexpensive) build that is really stout.

My new Fixit bench

I recently upgraded my general fixit bench. Here is what I have been working on for a dozen years.

And here is what I ended up with.

I posted a build along on the Woodworking 101 thread if you are interested in the details.

Not as fancy or as organized as most here but special to me. My grandfather built this bench out of true dimension 2x8 oak boards back in the 50's. All I did was repainted the lower part--it was industrial grey.

I wouldn't discredit it one bit. Looks like a bench I'd be happy to work at.
