If I had to drive 4 hours to pick that up, I'd be in the $200 range tops. It's going to need parts and work. I love the "might need a new blade" comment. Probably could be a serviceable saw, but there is no way to know how bad that thing has been treated until you see it.

I offered 200 a month ago and he turned it down. I damn sure not going 900.

I'm thinking 400 tops unless y'all see something I don't. I was hoping to get the saw, and get it running for 1K.

Working on projects like this can be enjoyable and when finished the equipment will look and work just fine. But the problem is, the cost to restore the item can be very high and in some cases parts aren't readily available, if they are available at all. Personally, I would be hesitant about getting this band saw. I have a feeling you may find it isn't worth the time or the effort to restore it.

Kalamazoo is still in business and had any of the parts I needed, not cheap though.

I have bought and refurbished a few horizontal saws. There aren't many parts and all the bearings and seals are off the shelf.
If you have a lathe and mill many more items can be made.

What it is worth would really require a much closer evaluation than an ad.
If the castings and gears are in good shape replacing all the bearings and seals doesn't cost much finding them on ebay, the local bearing place will be much higher.
^ $400-600 saw.

If any of parts that need replacing from the factory only, priced far less to scrap value.

On the other hand he could sell a few parts off it and easily pocket $400.

A good running saw of that size with a good going through, with a 1 phase mtr can fetch $1500-2000.

Complete sandblasting and painting, more.

Kalamazoo is a great old and respected name in American machinery history. I used one of of these for over a dozen years w/o any problems. Once you check it out thoroughly, and everything is there and looks good enough to restore, buying it for about the previously mentioned $200.00 to $300.00 range seems reasonable. From personal experience, I can add that cutting rail track may need a blade made to cut hardened steel.
I once tried to cut rail that was hardened on the top portion and the base was soft. Perhaps a large abrasive saw would do the job.

Bit high for my blood.

Having to buy a motor puts it up in the price range of a good used one.

Welcome to the world of industrial level equipment, it is almost all 3 phase.

Finding a good used 3/4-1hp 1750 rpm mtr shouldn't be a deal breaker.

As far as the existing motor goes, buying a three phase converter may be an option. I built my own rotary phase converter for about $75.00 when I needed it to run my 16" South Bend lathe, as well as several other three phase equipment. The DIY plans are on the Net for building your own phase converter. I put mine on wheels so I could take it to each machine as needed.

Yep, make the leap to 3 phase, it opens a whole world of industrial level equipment and machinery.

And variable speed with a vdf!

I have 3 vfds and 10hp rotary I build for cheap using scrounged up parts.
