Someone found an old wheelchair the other day that had been dumped and they turned it in at the firestation. I got to looking at it and I think it would make a pretty good welding cart. Take the vinyl seat out, replace it with some steel for a shelf, add a drawer and some do dads for cord holders, rod, ect. and I think it will work fine. Plus its got some really good casters and sealed bearing wheels with brakes, it rolls like a dream and turns on a dime. Might even make it to accept my plasma cutter also.

Damn, why don't I have enough creativity to think of stuff like this? I saw a wheelchair in the trash pile a while back and I couldn't think of anything to do with it. Your idea sounds good to me.

Great repurposing, but is there someone who may need that wheelchair because of a health issue? IMO its bad karma to make a welding cart out of a wheelchair unless it belonged to a relative who a was someone who used to weld/work in the garage.

While we are on the subject, did you know that Harbor Freight sells wheelchairs?
Well in todays times of stupid lawsuits and such, I'd rather make a welding cart out of it then to donate it to someone then have them get hurt and possibly sue me for a chit load of money. Sad that it has to be that way but thats the way society is these days.

Here's mine I built years ago. It's worked out great, big wheels make it easy to move around. Plus you can lock it in place when you get it where your working. Just bought a new welder so I'm thinking I'm going to rework it a little, build in a drawer and freshen up the paint on it.
These pics were from the build so they aren't too pretty but you get the idea.
I separated the sides and built a box to hold the welder, tools and tank. There's room for my chop saw on top, and my grinders hang on one side.
After these pictures I added a retractable cord to the back and built in outlets for everything.

By the way I bought my chair from a place that rebuilds and sells them. I actually dug it out of their scrap pile of chairs they keep around for spare parts for $20. I had seen several at garage sales and such but not one with the design I was looking for.
