Yup, you sure are in some sort of fantasy land. Even when they're on sale, the Hansen trays never drop below $9 or so. They do sell them in two-packs online, though. What you need to do is find a sale that overlaps with a calendar coupon, $5 off $25 or $10 off $50.

OR maybe it's time you looked at the *shudder* harbor freight version.

I can't see why they cost so much either.

They have some on sale right now but not in the price range you are referring to; maybe you can use the Craftsman club calender coupon to bring the price down further: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/s_10153_...yword=hansen+socket+trays&sLevel=1|2&sLevel=0
Because, they are on the "gift bar"; you might keep your eyes "peeled" this holiday season and see if they go on a good sale at Sears; if there is any good possibility of a sale it will be during the holiday season!

A quick "google"; reveals a wide range of prices online but I don't know which ones you want specifically; different prices on the diff sizes: http://www.google.com/products?q=Hansen+socket+trays&oe=UTF-8&scoring=p
http://www.google.com/products?clie...cket trays&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wf

more "sale" prices here:

The HF ones are not that great. The fit to the square drive is so snug that you wind up wrestling tem off each post, but worse because you're trying to careful not to break the plastic. Also, they don't leave enough room between sockets in the larger sizes if you have thicker base sockets like SK, Armstrong and others. I tossed my HF's in favor of the Hansons.

The HF ones are OK, but kinda dumb that they skip some numbers on the metric side (I can understand "odd" sizes, but I have to think 12mm is pretty common, and they skipped it!!!)

I might buy a set of the Hansens for metric only, since thats what I use the most. Ebay has been the best deal Ive seen so far, especially if you throw on the MS Live cashback (currently at 25%)

MS is giving cashback if you click item links from their Live Search (I assume to drum up usage of their Live Search).

You can use a link to Ebay for a common search item, then do a Buy It Now on any item during that session and get cash back. Have to use PayPal to pay though.

More explanation here: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/838081/?start=0

Live Cashback can be used at other sites as well.

List of Stores

I just received ~$50 from new computer parts purchases, and am expecting another $45 or so to be transfered to my paypal within a week. Not a bad system!

Anyone buy Hansen trays recently?

I'd like to buy 6 pcs -- the 1/4, 3/8, and the 1/2 in metric and SAE -- thinking of trying some place on line -- but the froogle.com links show some pretty serious discrepancies with postage and handling.

Ebay for $52.00 + $8.95 shipping. Still cheaper than Sears.

edit:

I see Billymade's recommendation of the toolwarehouse isn't bad: $11.55-$8 for the trays and free shipping for purchases over $99.

Why are their wrench racks in metric and SAE --- are they designed for each size? I guess that's it.

It's still hard to swallow that I could spend $100 for organizing gear when that money could go to tools, but what the hell.

i like those in blue and black...much better then the damn red i have got off the truck. my colors are black and blue!

I have that same set, from the same seller. The only beef I have with that set is, unlike any other Hanson 3/8" SAE tray, the one that comes in that set leaves out 15/16". Why, I don't know...:headscrat

The "real hell" is trying to find sockets to fill all those Hanson pegs!

I found 3/8" drive 5/16 deep and 1/4 deep (both like new SO) at a pawn shop yesterday for $1 each!!! So, my SAE 3/8" tray is officially full. I never thought I'd find those two sockets. I figured I'd have to find a truck!

FYI, Northern tools sells these things too. I think they do have some in red. They are about $1.00 cheaper than Sears at normal pricing. I have no idea if they ever put things on sale.

Lowes also sells them. They are red. Only come (I have only seen) in SAE. They are comparably priced.

Several have found these in auto parts stores. I have no idea which ones.

This thread is of real interest to me because I bought The Craftsman set of EVERY socket they make-299 sockets-on a deal a while ago. Still in box but I was thinking of useing Hansens because I have so many sockets.

Any advice on what Hansen set to get and where to get them? Will I have some 'left over' sockets because the Hansens don't have pegs for all the sizes? I'm really at a loss here as my local Sears has only a few Hansens so I can't see what the possible choices are. Thanks for the Help. Rick

This ad for Hanson trays tells what sizes each tray holds.

Thanks Paladin for the link.

Does this mean we have to spend over $100 to store our $350 sockets? Ouch!! Any attractive alternatives?

BYE THE WAY, IF YOU BUY HANSENS MAKE SURE YOU GET THE NEW ONES WITH THE 5/16 POSTS--Unless you don't have/use 5/16's!

Heck no! You still need wrench racks, Hex Socket storage and something for the crows feet.

I found mine at Sears. I bought all six, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 SAE and Metric, for about 55 dollars. They are grey and black. They were on close out so I bought them all. I want to say 8.49 a rack ? Now I just need the remaining 5000 dollars worth of Snappy sockets to fill them all!
