hit some styles today and found one with nothing but 40's and 50's craftsman stuff. I bought a ton of stuff including this vise and pipe wrench. When I saw them I just thought to myself wow, these things are beautiful. Just look at the lines, there's just something about them that is missing from craftsman today. I'm not saying that craftsman needs to make everything pretty, but does it really stand out anymore?

also picked up a "the couplings corp" parts cabinet. 2 akro mills bins/cabinets. 2 small tool boxes. set of proto flare nut wrenches. an old bucket that i filled with 40's and 50's craftsman tools of all sorts. craftsman torque wrench. benjamin light reel. some containers of old nos springs and cotter pins. a red vulcan metal box and an eagle oiler can.

Awesome score. I've been wanting one of those old 3 hole craftsman vises for awhile.

Great score! You do ****. That is a cool pipe wrench, I've never seen one like it.

Those pipe wrenches are cool.

They were relatively expensive, though, and that's likely why they were only available for a short time...

I found the pipe wrench in the 54 catalog. it did not appear in the 48 or 57 catalog.

Not sure why it was discontinued, as it was NOT terribly expensive. Dunlap was cheaper and the (Probably) Ridgid supplied was slightly more in the 14" sizes. maybe that was the kiss of death; only one size on that model! :dunno:

here are some pics of what was in the bucket. a bunch of craftsman yankee screwdrivers, pliers, cutters, files, punches, chisels, wood pilot bits, and a cool multi-use rule and gauge made by dunlap branded craftsman dated from 1938. also a jar of sockets and a bunch of wrenches all of which are v series.

thanks outlaw for posting that. someone asked if that pipe wrench is steel or aluminum, it is steel. I do have to say it feels great in my hand, its a shame they only made one size.

this was todays score. more craftsman chisels and files, some sears and dunlap wrenches. a scout vise. am I right that this was made by wilton? a super clean but incomplete indestro socket set. craftsman hacksaw. diamalloy shears, diamond adjustable wrench, wiss pruners. a clean craftsman yankee screwdriver with a set of bits. and a prairie tool company belt driven grinder with emerson motor. I oiled the motor and she works!

Agreed, especially on the vise. I have one just like it, lucky to have one in really good shape. Cost me more than it was worth, but as you said, something about the design is just very eye catching and unique. They are great pieces, glad to see another one go to someone that appreciates them for what they are.
