When is it time to swap your anvil?

Hey all,
I currently use chrome sockets on my 3/8 impact. Over time, the sockets slip off the gun. Thing is that other sockets I use less on the impact sit snug. Did I only damage the sockets and not the anvil or has the anvil gone as well? Similarly with my 1/2”, they supply cheap Chinese impacts at work and some slip off and some stay on? How can I tell it’s the anvil and not the sockets?
Thanks

My chrome sockets and impact socket have a different socket design in the drive holes. The inpact sockets are designed to accommodate the "ring" on the impact drive.
The chrome sockets have a depression to capture the detent in the ratchet drive.
