When not to use vented soffit?

I have a buddy who recently redid his soffit. He said he had plenty of vented soffit he got for free so he did not want to buy non vented soffit.

His roof has overhangs of course. He used the vented soffit around his entire garage even in the overhang areas where there was no path for for air to travel meaning that it was the overhang but no entry into the building for air to travel.

Could this lead to issues for him?

I thought maybe it would lead to issues because heat and air would get in but have no path to escape and would lead to condensation and mold issues.

if the air can get in, it can get out.
I think people try to get away with as little venting as possible which the wrong way to think.
