A co worker just dropped these off and I was curious as to when they were made. I am guessing the Lockheed brake fluid is from the 50's as I think that is when they stopped making them? And the oil is from the 70's? I have never seen 4 weight viscosity oil before.

Thanks,

Mike

Look at the label a little more closely. It's 40. There is such a thing as 4 wt, but only in hydraulic flluid, for motorcycle forks, etc. (AFAIK!!). My BMW uses 3 - 5 wt.

some folks I raced with used Lockheed brake fluid in the late 70's early 80's. I don't know if it was new or old stock. The X-100 is what I believe is an aluminum paper can. I would say late 70's as I remember the white can and X-100 logo like the one you have. I used to put oil in my VW bus from those style cans in the late 70's and early 80's. I always had to wait for it to get a quart down which annoyed me before using one. You could look at the address on the can and how the phone number if any is shown. That might be a clue. St. Louis 14 sounds like pre zip-code for that can. Zip-codes were used from 1963 on per Wikipedia.
