Where can I find a good lighter?

I have these cheapo grill lighters laying all around (shop, garage, kitchen, etc.). I hate the damn things!

I want a lighter that has the flame away from my fingers (like a grill lighter), doesn't blow out very easy, fires up on the first click, and no pesky childproof buttons to push.

I have this little jet lighter in my camping gear, and it works awesome, and has most of the features mentioned above. The only problem is the clicker is right next to the flame and it's really difficult to light anything besides a cigarette with it without burning your finger.

I'm using propane ventless heaters in my garage temporarily and I don't like to get hands too close to the burner when I light them up. It ***** clicking away on the grill lighter for 3 or 4 minutes to get the damn thing lit.

Go get one of the click start propane/butane burners that are used for soldering copper pipes.

I picked up a pair of grill lighters (the long ones) at TSC a while back, they were clearanced out for $2/2 and can be refilled with butane. I use them to light the wood burner. They light on the first or second click.

Your gonna light a propane heater with a Zippo? That's gonna hurt.

I've just usually tried to buy the better quality grill lighters. If they fail I toss them immediately. First click light or it goes in the garbage.

Zippos are great but not so much for that purpose.

*edit - I take it all back. Follow that link! Didn't realize Zippo had stepped up their game. If those lighters perform like the classic the you're set!

Crazytrain - You have one and like it?
That is exactly what I'm looking for

I did search around before posting, but seemed there were a lot of mixed opinions on how well they work. That's why I posted on here. Figured my fellow GJer's would steer me right with something they have actually used.

I do use my propane torch sometime to light the firepit or garbage barrel, but it's just bulky and not something I want to stick in a kitchen drawer.

Those zippo utility lighters are not looking so good in amazon reviews. When I have a long lighter that is acting up, I hold down the trigger and light it with another lighter. Then, I hold it upright and keep holding the trigger down for a minute or two. Seems to get it re-primed and flowing again. I haven't had one not respond to this treatment. If it is too cold where you are storing it, it will not work. Butane has very low vapor pressure below 30 F.

They make jet lighter type BBQ lighters that tend to work pretty well.

I've just been using an old sparker from my torches lately.

Harbor freight butane micro torch. 1 knob and 1 trigger. No safety ****. Best 8 bucks I spent there. 15 years old and still works fine

You should check the plasma long lighter. This lighter has a long "neck" and you will burn your fingers. They rely on batteries and solar power to run without fear of leakage. I have prepared one in the survival kit and use solar energy to charge it and never run out of battery. I like its long "neck", which is perfect for lighting candles, barbecue grills, etc.

You'll have a hard time these days finding one without some sort of "safety" (childproof) button or switch, even Zippo. I just get the cheap plastic ones. Their safety switch seems to be the least obtrusive. I did take apart my Zippo to get rid of the safety device, and it was bear.

I'm going on 7yrs with the same lighter. I start tires with it, melt heat shrink and many other things. It's a propane plumbers torch. No plastic to break and I can click it on and walk away if needed.
