My father in law has a skylight in the man cave that we are looking at puting a shad on. I have looked on home depot and they have a ton of them but we arn't sure which model of skylight he has so finding one at the box store might prove difficult. Does anyone know where we can get a good shad that will block out the sun to fit the dome shaped skylight? Measurements are 33x33. Solor powered would be ideal but the manual version would work. There isn't electricity close so that option isn't available. Thanks for the help.

Velux makes shades for their current skylights. However, I don't know of any manufacturer that makes anything "universal" so you may have to fabricate your own for a retrofit application.

I think that they make them so that they close from the outside-inside. Like a Chinese fan or a Kaleidoscope. But where you can get them? That's another question. :dunno: Sorry.

We have a lot of skylights in our house and we bought some farmer's shade cloth. I think we bought the kind that blocks 80% of the light. We also bought a roll of light bunjee cord, just the cord no hooks. We measured all our skylights and cut out shade cloth with enough extra so we could hem around the edges and still have it hang over the edges. We tie it with bunjee and they stay on all summer and early fall. Really helps.

We've been using the covers we made for about six years now. No sign of UV degradation.

Thanks metalmagpie. My FIL and i discussed it lastnight some more and he has decided to go with blinds.com especially since they are offering a 15% discount. Im sure if there was more then one skylight it might not be worth the cost but since its one light a "store bought" shade will work. I'll take some pics of it tonight and then upload those and the ones when the shade arives in a few weeks to show the difference for others to see. Thanks again guys for the help.
