Was at a friends shop yesterday when he pulled out this "speed rachet" to remove a sparkplug. He said it came from a friend that got it from a grandfather . . . might be from the '30s.

Attached is a photo (if I did it right)

Says Craftsman.

I would like to purchase one if I can find it . . . any help would be appreciated

It's 50's maybe early sixties, has been out of production for decades, and they come up regularly on Eprey. Bring a lot of $$$...

I sold one on Ebay recently for $100. I don't think these ratchets are very usefull, there are very few things that these ratchets do well. Your much better off getting a roto head ratchet and saving yourself some cash.

I'd guess one of these would be a lot more practical.

I have them in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 (the 1/2 is nice as it has a full spinner grip on both hand grip sections... My dad's old Snap-On.)

Do they still sell these new? :dunno:

I always wondered how rare those are. In my grandpas old tools, there is one that looks identical to that. He bought it when he first started as a machinist, back in the late 40's.

Not from Craftsman he didn't. This is from the 1960 catalog:

Sounds like they're not all that popular, maybe check a few local Sears stores and see if they have any of them laying around with the old stock, maybe check the clearance isle as well, I found an old screwdriver at my local Sears.

The last 3 sales of these on eBay went for 77 n change, 90, and some guy had a pair of them that went for 170.
I have only seen a few of them up close and personal, but like many others have said, any regular type speeder is going to be much better for ya to use.

As far as coolness, goes, it is a cool looking tool, but one would have to weigh the option of using or looking cool.
