Fleamarket and pawn shops. I try to buy used as much as possible. Used to get a lot of stuff off e-bay until Paypal pissed me off one too many times.

I also buy off the SO truck when I can. Our dealer is a super nice guy and I want to keep him coming around.

If they sell tools I am looking if they have a good price and I have cash and need it/ want it its going home with me. Whether its a store, tool truck or flea market don't matter to me. Never have online! might have to remedy that someday.

for me , flea mkt and swap meet for an occasional good deal, small purchase, or just an impulse buy.
for other hand tools, sears or HF will usually suffice for what i need.

the tool trucks have pretty much disappeared at our shop.

home depot, lowes, and menards are all close by, bought most of my "newer" power tools from one of the 3.

dont shop on the web for tools, or anything else for that matter, but i did buy a new IR231 from summit.
$138 incl shipping

Thats the line of thinking I would tend to follow if I had to start over today, get what I needed when I needed it at affordable deal, those 300# Craftsman sockets sets are a great deal bout don't matter how good they are. Same with that stuff from Lowes or Menards, can grab at the right price. You csan grab qa 3/8 air ratchet off the shelf for 50$ that works good and as you said a good one for 100 ordering. Use it till its broke, throw it away. I aint putting 50 or 60$ in parts I got to find and wait on, fix the junk I worn out when for 50 more can have a new CP.
I did however fix a cheap HF sander I had worn the **** out of, bearing in the head worn out, still had power and I had one on the shelf, took about 5 minutes and a brg I had scored for free or 2$, it was so easy or it would have headed back to china in the scrap, the thing well earned its keep for the 70 I paid for it, wouldnt hesitate to buy another. Heck, still works, might never wear it out at the rate I use it anymore?

ive pretty much not needed any "working tools" in the last 12-13 years, an occasional swivel socket or the like.
when we were racing, '99-'01, i started adding new tools, mainly CM, onto my "home" set, mainly to keep tools at the race shop and trailer. when i built my s-10 blazer, i added some fabrication stuff, grinders, bender, chop saw, ect.
when i get bored , i hit the flea mkts/swap meets for something to do, many times i come home empty handed. :dunno:

i started wrenching on const eq over 25 years ago, spent thousands & thousands of $$$$ on SO, matco, & mac trucks. the older i get, the less i really need, so the less i buy in the way of hand tools.
we're slowly doing some remodeling in our house, most of what i buy is "home improvement" type tools, pad sanders, table saw, mitre box, cordless drill/driver, air nailers/pancake compressor.
