Where Do You Keep Most of Your Tools?

What's the Best Way to keep our tools organized? Do you organize them by category? I would definitely like to gain some insight here.

Locked stacks and high shelves with separate alarms, auto sprinklers and a badass dog.
I get more serious at the workr shop
I'm one of those SHTF prepper type nutjobs. Zero crime around here for now but if it shows up the fourth of July festivities will be akin to a lawnmower backfire in comparison

Unfair for me to vote but I did. I own and operate a repair shop, so in my garage only makes sense. But also have the house tools like pliers, hammer, screw drivers that stay in the junk draw in the house. I deem them the wife's tools.

Most are in the garage, but have some in every car, office at home and work. I'm an engineer and mostly run a computer, but still have a desk drawer full of hand tools (socket sets, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.)

You can never have too many locations with tools.

I have them placed where they are most used. Some in the barn, shop, house, tractors, and pickups. The shop tools are divided between the machine tools area and the 'dirty' shop.

Usually at work but I brought my Box home a few year back, Now I just work out of Hazet boxes.

The vast majority of my tools and equipment are in my shop. I do however keep a rollaway at the brewery and one in my basement at home, as that's where I am if I'm not at my shop.

Misc stuff in my work truck, a 27" roll cab full to the Gills in the garage as well as a couple cabinets (power tools and such). In the shed I will end up with a montezuma triangle box with hand tools and cabinets for the power tools. I already have the triangle box and it's somewhat full but the shed isn't ready yet.

mine are scattered around for the most part..

garage spare/unused air tools, another set of hand tools, couple corded
drills, welding clamps, ect, corded grinders, welder, drill
press, belt/disk sander, bender, mig welder, AD hood & FRC
jacket

basement a few odd's and end's, and (woodworking type) powertools, &
cordless tools, a few more sets of FRC's all my machinist
tools

a few more in a kitchen drawer for the wife

Most are at work. Duplicates & stuff for older engines are at home. I organize the basics - sockets, pliers, wrenches... by category & other stuff by what type of job it's used for. Watch some shop & toolbox tours on YouTube to see what makes sense to you. Sometimes they provide a good narrative of which tools they like also.

Mine are in the Work van and the home based shop. I used to rent a separate shop but since I do most of my work on site and did only bigger jobs at the shop. So I have a large 2.5 car garage at home for me to use for when I need a vehicle for an extended period of time. Saves me about1K a month. Less overhead means more profit.

Everywhere seemed the best answer. Toolbox at work, tools in my desk, toolboxes at home (Garage and House) Toolboxes in the truck, toolbox in the car, tools in the attic, tools in my coat pockets,
Oh yeah, there's a "clean" toolbox and a "dirty" toolbox in the garage.

My tools are kept in my garage which is long and narrow aprox 10' x 70'. I have my best tools at the back where I work on motorcycles. They are separated into sae and metric boxes and mostly 1/4" and 3/8" dr.

The middle section is wood working, parts cleaning, compressor etc.

The front end by the driveway has 1/2" and 3/8" drive and all the same wrenches as the back end (all my seconds) so it's convenient for working on vehicles in the driveway (I don't have to run all the way to the back to get a tool). The front end also has the grinders, drill press, lathe, welding etc so I can keep the back end free of all the air borne particles you don't want getting in a fresh engine or trans rebuild.

I'm always picking up new tools (mostly used ones) so that's why I can afford a set for the front and the back sections. I upgrade the back end and move the older crude stuff to the front. I've also made 2 road boxes out of my upgraded tools, one light weight basic kit and a heavier 4 tray cantlever tote with lots of tools that weighs a lot either of which I can just grab n' go to work on something on location.
