Mine is kind of hard to see, but in the far back corner there is a small room that houses my Quincy 60-gallon vertical air compressor. The room measures approx. 4'x4', it is insulated and sheetrocked inside and draws air from inside the shop via several vents. It cuts down on the noise tremendously but the compressor running is still audible, just not as annoying. When I built my shop in 1995 this was part of my original design as it was not added on later. At my parents small workshop on their farm we had the air compressor out in the open in the shop and I hated it.

I have some shelves on the inside where I can store some small items and the top of the compressor room acts as a small mezzanine for storage to minimize wasted space.

In the picture it is a bit cluttered on top of the compressor room but the exhaust systems are now sold and the blankets and bedspreads are stacked more neatly. I use them for laying on carpets/interiors of RV's when working on them to avoid tracking anything inside on the carpets.

Nice, clean setup you have there.

Mike.
Thanks Mike. I STILL haven't painted that plywood baseboard below it!

Very nice. I like the hose reel. You say you bought it at PA for $30? How long ago was that?
My guess is about 5 or so years ago. I've also seen them, or similar ones, at flea markets like the Barrie Automotive Flea Market. They're usually sold by low end tool suppliers with inexpensive air tools.

White, if you haven't found a reel like that, you might try looking for high pressure hose reel. That reel that PCO6 is using just identical to a h.p. water hose reel. I've got one just like it. These reels are made for pressure washer hose and are rated at something like 300psi and higher, so 150psi of compressed air shouldn't be a problem.

$30 was cheap. Maybe a sale price?

Here is a link to a couple

BTW, PC, is the theory on the vertical orange pipe to cause moisture to drop to the bottom due to the expansion of the air space as it comes out of the smaller dia. outlet hose?

Just added this to my shop. 4" concrete floor, plenty of vents and louvers for air circulation.
Also has automatic tank drains that purges the moisture out of the tanks every 45 minutes, although, I'm not sure how they will work when it gets below freezing.
May install a small electric base heater.
Plumbed them through the wall into shop. All controls, air and electric are in the shop side. Freed up the space two 60 gallon compressors took and I can hardly hear them when they kick on.

That's a very nice doghouse Jeff.
After seeing so many pics and videos of exploding tanks, I can't stomach the thought of a compressor sharing the same space that I work in. Not to mention the valuable space they take up.

I will be building mine soon (probably even before I get my slab in my shop poured because I'm tired of storing it in my garage). It will house my 80gal vert. compressor and commercial pressure washer that has a diesel fired burner. I will be plumbing the intake to the outside protected with a cover as well as plumbing the burner chimney on the p.w. outside. I'll frame it out of either 2x4's and insulate it with spray foam if I can do it cheap enough, or 2x6 with R19 in the walls and ceiling. I will install a few vents with damper doors that are electrically controlled when either the compressor power is turned on or the p.w. power. I think I should be able to keep the temps in the doghouse above 40˚ in the winter with no more than a single heat lamp. At least that is the plan.

Mine sits next to the man door alongside the 200 amp panel. It's an 80 gallon, 5HP Dayton, and it's not too loud compared to others I've heard.

Men is housed in the generator room; a separate sound insulated room off of the main shop. I don't care to listen to the noise.

My 5hp portable is under the steps to the basement. There is a manifold and hose reel there, as well as a pipe to the garage where its connected to a manifold and hose reel there. I plan to redo the garage setup sometime soon.
