Hi all,

Looking to get some bits, for some Felo insert screwdrivers.

Just wondering what everyone uses for bit storage, and where they buy their bits.

Thanks.

The bit store on 4th.

Cripe on ebay has tons of quality USA made ones at great prices, I've bought many ans haven't had any problems with them.

I've had good luck with the Dewalt kits, I've purchased 4-5 large kits just to make sure I have a large assortment that will last me a long time.

For new construction go with square drive and/or torx for everything you possibly can. You won't have to worry about replacing your bits nearly as often. Oh and buy a good brand, cheap bits are miserable. I once bought a big set of discount bits... The bits shattered with every other screw I drove and the nut driver was rounded out after driving 4 small lag screws. NEVER buy worforce bits from HD. There should be a class action lawsuit over that trash.

Wiha bits for production/mfgr environment bought either through my local industrial supply or, if for myself, bought through Wiha online.

Not cheap but they outlast most of the othere **** bits out there when used daily and heavily.

Ooops.

For storage I use Snap-On bit storage racks KMAGBIT37R along with old Skoal or whatever brand chew tobacco containers my neighbor or co-workers are using (clear or colored plastic containers) with lids.

No need to get fancy in my world but I hate it when bits get all scattered or lost when the wrong storage device is used.

BTDT x 1000.

I like bits, so I buy all kinds when something interesting looking shows up. Most used are the ones in the $8 box of 100 security bits from HF. Saving my diamond tipped Wiha bits for that special bolt.

I have a Ryobi set of bits that came in a nice little hard plastic case. I use them in my cordless drill or in a 1/4" magnetic driver (Sears Craftsman) that you stick the bits into. But I guess I never use it too much. I usually just grab a regular screwdriver or a ratchet to drive screws or bolts/nuts. Though I can see a use for getting into tight areas when I don't have my extensions handy. I need to use it more! :)

Isn't S2 a fairly broad type of steel, does it really matter vs Apex bits are known industrial grade?

I buy wiha from amazon. Wera is my first choice but I don't think they sell bits.

Wera sells screwdriver bits. They may not be the most easily available brand in the USA but they are available. This is the page on the Wera website listing various types.

http://www.wera.de/catalog_de.html?...ge_of_wera_bits_bits_for_phillips_screws.html

Do an internet search for the stock codes and places that sell the bits will come up. Zoro Tools lists them.

Anybody know if the Apex bits are S2 steel?

No, but if your worried about durability you might be better off just buying a #2 Phillips bit from a number of different manufacturers and try camming it out repeatedly in a drywall screw, or a soft steel screw. See which bits last longer and are less likely to cam out. I usually go with Wiha bits because they seem to grip the screws really well. I haven't tried a cam out test yet.

Quality of the bits is more important than the quality of the driver!

The best I've found are the Swiss made PB, but I've got some Snap On as well, which are fine!

For storage, a block of wood with some holes in!

Would you say the SnapOn bits are worth it? Considering warranty and such?
Up till now I just got my bits on sale at Christmas time...that time of year seems like HD & Lowes always have huge bit assortments on sale for Christmas gifts..so my bits up till now have mostly been DeWalt. Not overly impressed with the normal DeWalt ones, seem to wear quickly, luckily they are dirt cheap so I cant complain. Got some of the impact Milwaukee ones this season and they are good, but I found the Torx ones to be extremely soft. Phillips & Square have held up good thus far. Recently got a #2 Phillips and normal Flat bit insert free from my SO guy, so far I'm impressed..been using the phillips for a month now and you couldnt barely tell its used.

Although I have plenty of those little 1/4 inch screwdriver bits, and seem to collect more fairly regularly, I don't like them. I'd rather use the proper screwdriver or nutdriver or whatever. But up on a ladder or under a sink I want what few tools I have on me. That's when I like to use my Klein 5- or 11-in-1. I trust those bits more for some reason. I carry plenty of those little bits and several bitholders out on a worksite, and (in volunteer projects) I don't sweat it if I don't get them back. Call it a donation.

If I have to use bits, I prefer to use long shank bits on an impact driver or socket bits. Sometimes though, I don't have a choice...
