Where is strat cap located?

I have a Trane split ac unit SPR034B-1RPA with an Alliance compressor COM 10025. Troubleshooting guide suggests run cap as fault for my problem. Schematic show a run cap and a start cap but I can not physically locate the start cap. Diagram shows start cap within dotted lines around it and compressor coils.

In the condenser outside, it's probably a dual cap, sometimes they are behind an adjacent panel not always with the rest of the electronics, typically they are round, sometimes oval, kinda like an old V8 juice can. Caps frequently go bad when it starts getting hot, being an HVAC service tech in AZ, I'd say 8 out of 10 no cooling calls are caps, sometimes they can also take out the outdoor fan motor, so don't be surprised.if its got 3 terminals its dual. Finally got hold of Trane tech help You are correct dotted lines means optional and my unit did not have one. And yes they are often painted black while run cap are bare aluminum. I can add start cap kit and pull out another year on compressor. Unit is nearly 14 years old, so I'm replacing compressor.

check your old cap before you add a hard start. is your compressor contactor pulling in. are your fuses good.

Check for 240 volts at the contactor(relay), a friends was not starting and he thought was cap but was breaker instead with one side dead just 120 to compressor. He had checked with voltage indicator instead of dvm.
