Where oversized nuts and bolts?

I bought some hardware to put my Milwaukee 6365 angle adjustment/shoe back together, but the lever is oversized and needs a 9/16's nut to engage the notches on the lever to tighten and loosen it. Problem is the bolt that fits into the back of the saw has to be 1/2 x 5/16-18 or else it won't fit and move, so I need to find a 9/16 nut that is tapped 5/16-18.

Is there any place I could find these without having to spend 18 cents on a nut and $7 for shipping online? Is there such thing as just a blank nut where I could just drill and tap it to the size I need?

Do you have a Fastenal near you?

I personally hate the place but mostly because they used to be a vendor at work and they went from supplying us with decent if overpriced tools to 'rock river' **** that was no better than Harbor Freight (actually I'd rate most of their branded tools worse than HF) yet still at industrial/pro-tool prices. That didn't last long though after we started going through tools in days & weeks that used to last months or years and they are no longer a vendor for us anymore. But I digress.

As far as what you are looking for Fastenal would be my first bet, and if not there then McMaster-Carr, though I've never had one of those local to me. I'd bet they'd have it though and super fast shipping too, but boy oh boy do you ever pay for it.

The simple solution is to use a piece of bar stock the right thickness (and maybe width), tap it, cut it off, then leave it square or file it into a hex shape if need be. Should take about 15 minutes or so............ think you have overlooked the obvious.

I think you're describing an "Extra-Wide" nut. McMaster-Carr has zillions.

I'd check with a good REAL hardware store if there are any around.

The big box stores like Meanards, bLowes, and Home Despot won't have them.

You'll need an Ace, Do it Best, Pro Hardware, or True Value with a good fastener selection. You might have to hunt around a bit; there's a lot of variation in what individual stores carry.

I don't do much metal fabrication so it's easy to forget about stuff like that being available

I could send a couple, I think I have some.

Thanks for the offer. I don't want to be too much of a bother so I'll call the fastenal nearby first and see if they got any in stock.

funny how they always show up back in stock two weeks after I already ordered the parts :lol_hitti

I did see them at bolt depot a few days ago, but the shipping was pretty brutal for a 21 cent item

That makes things easier, plus it I probably can pick up the filter for my lawn tractor there.

Went to fastenal and they had them. Had no luck getting this to work though, I couldn't see a way how the lever was going to stay on, that klipring didn't do anything for me.
Ended up just throwing a half inch bolt on the end and ziptied a double end wrench to the cord. Wish I had a welder around, would've made things a lot easier just to tack the lever the bolt.

No way for the spring washer to stay centered, lever was free to move, I think they might've sent the wrong parts, or the right ones were discontinued long ago and milwaukee didn't bother to test the newer ones on the old models.
