I have a vent hood that is 31"x40" I am going to hang over my weld table. I am going to put a blower motor from a furnace inside the hood and route the duct out the roof. I have scrounged all of these components for dirt cheap over the last few years. My question is how high on the wall should I mount the hood? The room is 14'wx20'dx9'h. The hood is going over my weld table that is 30"dx48"wx42"h. My thought is to set the table 12" off of the wall to encourage the air to flow out of my breathing zone. I am thinking I will set the hood 42" above the bench to give me room to work.
The weld table is on wheels, so I have flexibility on locating the table w/ regard to the hood. But I would like to nail the height the first try as it will take a little bit of rigging to get the hood in place - don't want to guess and test that one too much. Thoughts?
Please don't beat me up on local exhaust is better than general and all of that. I know. I work in ship repair and am fairly educated on the preferred ventilation methods. This is at the house for personal use - OSHA ain't got no part in this. I take the especially smoky/crappy work out into the yard. My main goal here is to change the air in the room to keep the dust under control.
