Where should I stick this vent hood?

I have a vent hood that is 31"x40" I am going to hang over my weld table. I am going to put a blower motor from a furnace inside the hood and route the duct out the roof. I have scrounged all of these components for dirt cheap over the last few years. My question is how high on the wall should I mount the hood? The room is 14'wx20'dx9'h. The hood is going over my weld table that is 30"dx48"wx42"h. My thought is to set the table 12" off of the wall to encourage the air to flow out of my breathing zone. I am thinking I will set the hood 42" above the bench to give me room to work.

The weld table is on wheels, so I have flexibility on locating the table w/ regard to the hood. But I would like to nail the height the first try as it will take a little bit of rigging to get the hood in place - don't want to guess and test that one too much. Thoughts?

Please don't beat me up on local exhaust is better than general and all of that. I know. I work in ship repair and am fairly educated on the preferred ventilation methods. This is at the house for personal use - OSHA ain't got no part in this. I take the especially smoky/crappy work out into the yard. My main goal here is to change the air in the room to keep the dust under control.

As to optimum placement for air turnover/smoke removal, I'm not going to be particularly helpful, but especially with a mobile table I'd place the hood above at least 6'-5" for lower risk of cranial/hood contact. Perhaps you could use a boat winch to make the height adjustable for better clearing? Harry

How tall do you think I am? The bottom rim of it is 84" from the floor. The top of my head is 74" from the floor. The weld shield adds ~2". Only way I am going to wack my head is if I jump, but I can't jump that well. I should be fine.

My thought would be to start there but don’t hang it permanently, allow for adjustment. I would think the maximum draft would be when the hood is closest to the welding being performed. If the air speed is too fast, then it could remove any welding gases. Start where you have it, closest to the table without hitting your head, then raise it if the air speed is too high. If it’s not pulling out enough, then lower the hood but angle the side where you are so you can get to the table. There’s nothing saying the hood absolutely has to be parallel to the floor.

What about mounting it on the wall behind the bench so it ***** away from you? It would be mounted vertically.
