Yes its a mess. I am mid build on the shelves right now. Which location would be best?

Cliffs:

1 - Left side wall, above main workbench. Kind of too close to my work space to watch, but off the wall, I can watch while brewing out there or wrenching. Above the TV may later be a ductless A/C unit - should be condensation free though.

2 - Under the shelves. This is TIGHT top to bottom, but would fit. Would mean to pull it out off the mount I'd need to clear the workbench. Also, higher risk of me springing something into the screen here IMO

3 - In front of the shelves. Kind of would block access some, but with the mount/swivel, I could just put less used things there. Higher up, easiest to see from everywhere

4 - right of shelves. Right left/right, but not so much it intrudes on the door. Might be harder to see from driveway, always lots of things in the "middle" of the garage blocking.

5 - above the kegerator (at least thats the current location) Same issue on blocked view. Fits there perfect, but might be the worst viewing location.

Audio is inconsequential, will be mapped to in ceiling speakers that will be more middle of the room for best coverage.

Consider this.....

Do #1. Build a retractable unit, or buy something like below, and then install it far enough out from the wall that you can still use the wall space for 6-12" of whatever storage/tool racks/etc that you need. When you want to watch TV, you fold it down. If not, fold it up and it's out of the way. I would rig it so it folds screen UP, rather than screen down.

Google "folding lcd tv mount" for a buttload of examples....

You southern guys and your garage TV's! I can't imagine having a TV out in my garage. First, every time some Victorias Secret ad came on I'd no doubt drop a tool, start a fire or otherwise do something stupid. And second, I do a fair amount of car-washing in my garage. High humidity and flagrant use of water would be the demise of any television.

My two cents only but I say use an iPad for your brewing. A good program like Beersmith will work famously...

In a dumpster. They call it an idiot box for a reason. You sit in front of it long enough and it's guaranteed to turn you into one.

I agree with wait until you're done rearranging the garage. I have been watching or listening to the "antenna TV" channel, great old shows, while painting or putting the floor down. Don't watch it while using the table saw.

I vote for on top of kegerator so you can turn it for best angle for where you are working. For all the guys that say tv don't belong in the garage that's fine for you, CHRISLEHR wants a tv in HIS garage and asked for advice.

TVs in the garages have been discussed many times. No two garages are alike, nor are the owners or what they use them for. While some might be totally against them, they might work for your fellow members.

I agree. Some will argue no TV, no fridge, no computer, etc. but who cares.

I put my TV over my main bench. The fridge is to the left and the computer is to the left again. That's a stereo under the TV btw. Hard to believe I get any work done. :dunno:

I would put it above the toolbox on the left. I put mine above my work bench so I can see it in my whole garage.

I voted 4, but it should have been 5. Chubby fingers hit wrong line.

I don't find any of the proposed locations to be particularly good, but unless you were going to swing it down from the ceiling I suppose in front of the shelves on a swivel mount would be the least worst......

Do what I did in my garage- hang the tv on a tilt/swivel mount in the upper corner in front of the shelves between #1 and #2. Tilt it down slightly and angle it towards the center of the garage.

Thanks. It doesn't look like that often so I thought I'd take a picture!

PC06 . . you've got organization and storage down to a T !!

You must have a monster database to keep track of everything in all those storage cubbies . . . or your mind is a steel trap !!

- - - - - - - - - - -
OP . . . suggest you look at ceiling or wall mounts and get creative.

^^^ - Thanks. The time it takes to organize things is usually gained back when you have to find things ... BUT NOT ALWAYS!!!

I don't have a TV in my garage....the saw dust would kill it in no time. But, if saw dust is not an issue, why not. Watch a game...put a kids program on and have the kids out there with you. Set it up with a cable from the computer....use a wireless kbd.....surf GJ from afar.

I like having a tv in the garage to put on a football game or race while I am tinkering on something. I will also put on any of the number of car building shows for inspiration and the occasional Mecum or Barrett Jackson car auctions to see what a finished project might look like if I ever have the experience of completing one.

I am a little mixed on having it out there though. But in my case I think it sometimes gets me off my **** sitting in front of the tv in the house and at least getting up and about and doing something.

I put mine on a unistrut trolley in the garage. When to in use it sits above the washer and dryer, I can either tilt/move it out slightly when viewing while putzing around or I can move it all the way out to the center of the garage for some dedicated viewing. I bbq in the driveway since it is out of the afternoon sun in the evenings so it is nice to watch a little sports in the evening, drinking a couple of beers while tending to my meat.

I would never put a TV in my garage. Don't listen to radio either. I have a "No-Commercials-Being-Shoved-Down-My-Throat" policy in the garage. CD's or Pandora One only!

But if I were you I'd put it over the Kegerator... the heat from the fridge will help keep the TV dry in humid weather. Think of it like storing your cereal in the cabinet over the fridge...

I have one in my garage and love it. I am not always out there working. Really handy when the out-laws are visiting or my daughter is having a sleep over with friends. When I am working I can listen to the news, football, racing etc. also have a half bath, wi-fi etc.

To each his own. I built my garage for me. And it see's plenty of work. Sawdust, drywall mud and dust, grinding etc. when the tv goes out I will buy another.

I also have an apartment above my garage with everything but a washer and dryer.

I voted above kegerator because that is wasted space otherwise. You can use above your workbench for cabinets. Plus, I using sanders and grinders near/on my workbench and don't want that dust directly next to my Samsung TV. My workbench is in the left corner of my garage similar to yours, and I put my tv in the far right corner above our standup freezer. With a tilted/swivel mount, I've been happy with the location.
