I am planing on building a 50' wide by 30' garage and not sure were to place it. the ground is pretty much flat no major hills or slopes . The blue square is where the shed has been moved to. this shop will store to vechicals and be used as my work shop and 1 hoist, im open to ideas and other layouts and sizes

By the way this is being built in Nova scotia.

I think I'd have fun with it and put it behind the tree's on that light patch.

Make it a little jaunt from the house on a road through the tree's, kind of gives you a seperate man domain to work and crank the music up no matter the time.

One thing to consider if you build it there....you have easy access from both roads and the garage is hidden from view from the house. Easy target for thieves. I think I would cut down a few trees and move it closer to the house and use one driveway instead of two. Just my $.02.

Or plant more trees between the shop and the road and just have a driveway from the house...

all buildings 90 degrees to each other... for example the back of your house and the face of garage are inline or parallel. The side of the garage or face of garage would be 90 to the back of the hse. Consider all other possible building... a shed... same thing.
The driveway cost /maintenance would make me want to not parking lot my property with pavement or stone (impervious surface minimum issue for some).
I like the building near... hard to move things in the cold and kills the views of the property when the land is all covered in bldgs.
Garage doors not open to road (private).
I like a land piece placement higher up to gravity take water from building gutter away. I also did a drain pipe at footing level to gravity take water away... a inch of rain can be 2000 gallons of water near by from the roof... maybe a nice cupola on top standing proud.
Lastly think about the view inside the house to seeing the entry door on garage... sometimes sliding the garage a few feet in a direction gives a view from house to garage door (security) or a view past the garage to the back of the property. line of site thing...

the side road is quite a bit busier then the road my driveways on i would kinda like to block the view from that road into my back yard, just not sure how far away i want the garage .also thinking about about an L shaped garage 48 wide by 24 and 48 by 24 allowing for 4 garage doors on the inside of the L

Good points, but I'd plant MORE tree's before considering cutting down even one.

You've done all the checking of zoning, setbacks, area and height requirements, easements, right of ways, deed restrictions etc.???

Before you plunk it down anywhere it looks like a good time to do a comprehensive master plan for the entire property looking to future long and short term uses. Think about sight lines and views from the main house and shop. Think about neighbors present and future views. Think about how to integrate your property and it's uses into the larger community. Use landscaping to create outdoor spaces and uses. Now is the time to determine the overall structure of your property.

i like this one it makes it where you can pull in and all the way around with out having to back up (think about pulling a trailer), if you have "junk" outside it wont be seen from the house, as others have said noise won't be a problem and as far security goes, just have a good system in place

Looking at the pictures I do not see an attached garage. I would put it as close to or attached to the house if possible. It is cold out there.

cannot do an attached as my septic tank is right next to the house at the end of the drive way north would be left to the driveway looking up it. winds are really calm here im not worried about the cold you get used to it and its only 4 months out the year where its really bad. maximum size is 750 sq feet and maximum height is 22 feet and have to stay 4 feet from neighboring properties and 15 feet from roads. also has to be 10 feet away from the house. the city finally called me back to answer these questions on sizes today

I am assuming that in this view, it is where you are planning on putting the building and that is your house we are looking at? Just remember..what you can't see of the house from the garage, you also can't see the garage from the house. Secluded is nice if you are a mile back from any main road, but you have two roads close. It's just my opinion, but I think you would be much happier in the longrun, if you had a clear view of the house to the garage and visa versa. One, just for the safety aspect of it. If you are out there working, at least the wife or kids could step out of the house to see if you are safe.

Another thing to consider is that it looks like the majority of the trees are some type of evergreens. Fast growers. You could cut some down and replant behind the garage to make the garage secluded from the roads. Or if you wait until fall (which isn't too far away) rent a small backhoe and move all what you have out of the way. Again, that's just my $.02 on it.

well a lil update found out i can only go 750 sqfeet so doing a 30x25 with the garge door on the long side. finally got my backhoe to the city so i started building the drive way and clearing the land for the shop .

as u can by the pic the yellow will be the new drive way and the red is the shop and i have enough room to build another shop in the future across from the first one. and possibly do a looped driveway if i want one

as u can by the pic the yellow will be the new drive way and the red is the shop and i have enough room to build another shop in the future across from the first one. and possibly do a looped driveway if i want one

much better. the garage is now hidden from both roads and you now have a windbreak all around

well i starting clearing for the garage and found a problem when it rains water runs across my propety from the side road ill take some pictures tommorro hmm any ideas how to solve this issue

Your location looks decent but I would try to get it where you could use your septic tank for facilities in the shop. And with your rules and tall house you could build with 18' walls and have a second level in all or part of it. I put an addition on my shop with office and bathroom(with shower) and it is the best thing I ever did. Even the wife likes it to "preclean" before going in the house if it is muddy or out muddin on the quads.
