I am looking for a good reliable online source to buy bulk bolts. I have bins of bolts 1/4-1/2 invh bolts but need to replace alot. HD and lowes are junk. I need grade5. I had ordered a bunch from a company call USFASINING online a moth ago. Good thing I used PayPal as the site closed and there were alot of scam complaint's against them on the BBB. So now the search for a good place continues. Any recommendations ? Thank you

I go to my local Fastenal.
They have everything, and the quality is very good.
You can also order from McMaster Carr online. Outstanding selection. Excellent quality.

Where do you live?

Fastenal gets a lot of flak from people looking for singles, but if you're looking for 100s it's worth a call.

Worth pricing grainger and McMaster too.

I know Fastenal has a clearance section that would be worth looking at in addition to their regular stock. Might be weird lengths/finishes or they might have just what you're looking for at an attractive price.

I wouldn't be surprised if Grainger & McMaster had something similar.

McMaster Carr. Most of their grade 5 & 8's are US or Canada made. It does tell you on their website.

I skip the china junk TSC sells.

I've used Boltdepot.com for a few years and have always been happy with them. Wide variety of types and grades. Been able to find specific items that HD and Lowes don't carry and its easy to find what you are looking for on the website. Shipping has always been quick for me as well.

I stock 2 in some and 5. There is about 0 reason for most to stock 8. Only a few fine for repairs and a box with a few metric for cars. At one point when I had more men stock 5 only. It avoided having a soft bolt where it should be hardened.

Fastenal carries grade 5 and grade 8 in the store. If you set up an account and get in good with a salesman, they have a lot of room to move on fasteners. Most people do not know but Fastenal owns controlling interest in Holo-krome. Holo-krome international hardware is made in China in Fastenals Holo-krome plant and Holo-krome usa is made in the US. I used to work part time at Fastenal when I was first trying to get my business up and running. It gets a bad rap because their pricing is really set up to deter the people coming in for one or two fasteners. You start buying in bulk and the prices magically drop and are quite competitive. We used to run a special where if you bought a Grade five bolt assortment for $600 we would throw in the bolt bin for free. Our manager was great and really built up a lot of business with that promo.

You don't say where you're at but if you're in or near Missouri try Orscheln Farm and Home stores. While they are farm/home type stores they are mostly geared to farm. If you've ever teen to a Tractor Supply store they are very similar. They sell "by-the-pound".

Graded, ungraded, SAE, metric, etc.

A search yielded:

Orscheln has 175 stores located in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ohio and as of May 2018 the company opened its 175th location along with its first location in Texas. It is part of the Orscheln Group, a conglomerate of companies operated by the Orscheln family.

Orscheln in Oklahoma does not sell bolts by the pound

Interesting. We have two stores in Columbia, Missouri and they both do.

Note that Orscheln originated 40 miles north of Columbia in Moberly, Mo and that's still their headquarters. Probably has nothing to do with why the Oklahoma stores don't sell by the pound though.

Local farm store probably sells boots by the pound.

Bulk fasteners online McMaster (quality) or Amazon (if quality doesn't matter).

Where in NY is the OP?
I use the Yonkers Fastenal and the Tractor supply in Patterson.
My McMaster orders arrive the next day, even if ordered late the day before.

when i order hardware:

Fastenal - bulk quantities and singles with multiple line order, can order online in singles
McMaster-Carr - mostly bulk, great selection
Bolt Depot - singles, smaller selection then 2 above but great service
Zoro/Grainger - when the other 3 above fail or have a better price

I've used Bolt Depot for years, really good quick service and to me the fasteners seem high quality. I buy a lot of grade 8 from them because it's often cheaper than their grade 5 stuff.....also, the higher the quantity you buy the cheaper it gets.

Try Tractor and implement dealers in your area, they usually have a good supply of Bolts, if you are concerned about quality ask for a insurance certificate on their bolts. We had 3 shops doing hi-line construction maintenance and all we stocked was grade 8. Originally used Lawson Products, they had a salesman drop by and fill the bins up, got to checking their prices and it cane in around $12.00 a pound, that was in 2000. Looked around at the inplement dealers and their price was $3.00 a pound with the insurance cert. I had to go there to pick up the product but it was on my way home and I got to pick and choose and we trimmed up the inventory a little, boss was happy.
