Howdy,
First time caller, long time lurker (so be gentle). I'm suprised at the 59 threads that come up in a search for "insulation" none discuss where's the best place to buy it. So where did you get it or where's a good place to buy it?

Some details on my place:
Miracle Truss 40x48 with minimum of 2500 SQ FT mostly 2'x6'', some 2'x4".

The costs I'm seeing at Lowes and Home Depot are about $.50/sqft (2x6)

Thanks in advance.

If you find a cheaper price I'd like to know where also! I'm looking at r-30 for the ceiling and it's running around $.68/sq ft.

If your not in a hurry, call around and ask.
Some places here have annual one day cash & carry truckload sales on insulation.

Also if you buy a certain amount from the "big box folks" Menards, Lowes, etc.... they will often supply the blower for free.

Thanks for all the response so far. Generally, it sounds like $.50/sqft is a reasonable price. That number is still going to take a little getting used to. :eyecrazy:

I know there were a few insulation experts in here. I'd be curious if you agree with these costs.

If you decide on one of the big box stores check to see if one is running a promotion before you buy. I recieved a Home depot gift card when I purchased mine a year ago. Mine was for $50 but I believe the more you spend the bigger the gift card.

As Rich above mentioned. Lowes recently offered a $100 dollar gift card when you buy $300 worth of insulation which I gladly took them up on. They ran this again since then so maybe they do this occasionally? Watch their sale papers...

Got the renewal forms from the DMV for my pickup a month or so ago,in the envelope was a 10% off any purchase Home Depot coupon.
I'm in MA,don't know if it's nationwide, but worth asking around.

Look in your area for an insulation contractor, one that has a lot of trucks!
Check with on buying from them. Alot of time is is a bit cheaper as they move more product and get better pricing. Most are happy to sell as it's just more product moved for them.

I worked in insulation for 31yrs and as far as I remember the contractors that sold insulation never ran a sale. I think your best bet is to watch for a sale at the big box.

I bought my insulation from Bay industries, or Bay insulation. They have locations across the US. I went with the wmp-50 vapor barrier, but I was still well under .50ft. I bought 12,000sqft of insulation. It has been the worst part of my build so far. Very hard work. I guess it would be better with more than 1 friend and myself doing all the install.
