Where to find a Drill Stop? Not the one you think.

Im in the process of get equipment for a new Business (pest Control) and one of the items I need is a drill stop. This is not the something to measure depth, but to stop a drill if the bit comes into contact with a live wire.
Im having a hard time find one, all the safety material call them drill stops, but Im not sure what they are called in the real world.

It's litterally call drill stops...

I think Homedepot, HF, Lowes , or any machinist place carries them, maybe some other online industrial source as well...

A good stud sensor with metal and electrical sensing is what you need to be using. As others have said by the time you hit the wire its to late. Some of the no contact type of voltage sensors would also work, although they are generally only work withing a inch or two of the live wire.

I belive you are correct. here is a quote that Im working off of to try and find this thing

There is always the risk of coming into contact with a live wire when you drill through a slab.
A GFCI will not normally protect you from this danger, but a drill stop might. A drill stop is an electronic device that is meant to stop power to the drill whenever the drill comes in contact with grounded metal piping, an electrical conduit, or reinforcement steel. The drill stop also has one or two GFCIs.
Since the drill stop prevents the drill from going through a grounded metal object, it also lessens the risk of electric shock that may occur when drilling through a live electric wire.

I've had Emily LaTella moments but I hope they come from lack of clear questions and not me refusing to do even the simplest task correctly.

As is my common problem, I'll make a make a maybe invalid point in defense of the ones I criticize:

I don't know if flip phones show only the title.


Someone who knows could give me a clue as to why some responders don't
read the question.

I think there is a legitimate need and use for this device, but I don't think "pest control" falls under that need or use. I'd have to think some insurance underwriter who doesn't know which end of a screwdriver to use came up with this requirement. Of course this may not be the tool being specified by them. The OP should be asking for more specific info from his Insurance company or Loan company, whichever the case may be.

Hi dogan, I am wondering, what is the reason for needing this equipment in the Pest Control business? I can understand a Plumber or a Contracter.
My guess is that this particular item you are looking for is probably only available for industry types and also expensive.
