I am looking to replace my current garage door with a wider one. Currently i have 1, 7 wide foot solid door.....not a roll up sectional. Mine is the type of door that kicks out at the bottom and rolls up to the ceiling on a track.
I want a wider door and i want that style. It gives me better security.....vehicle parked infront of door means door won't open.
Where can i find such a manufacture of this "older" style door ? What would this style of door be called ?

I do not think you are going to find a current builder of that style door.
The mechanism was call a "scissors" style and for god reason.
They cut off quite a few fingers.
They were pretty popular in CA in the 60’s but I haven’t seen them lately.

You can replace it with a standard overhead door if you have enough headroom. They do make the "chinbuster" hardware if you have to go back with the same kind. You can even put a standard opener on them if you need to.

UK? No, I think he is in Canada....Saskatchewan, CA to be exact.

As for security....a roll up is just as secure....especially if you use a garage door opener. The car only works if it's there. If you're gone in the car....they can get in.

You really should consider going roll up for safety....I have seen one of the springs break....if you are too close, it is going to hurt. When I was in HS, we helped one of our neighbors one morning try to open her door...the arm on one side let loose and it swung up slicing about a 5" gash in our cheek....it was bad....I will never own one of those doors.

A friend of mine just built his pole barn with an airplane hangar type door - a bi-fold hangar door. Really neat - clears a car parked in front, nothing inside of the building, lots of overhead clearance. See attached photos of examples I found on the net.

Thanks for the responses, it looks like i might have to go the way of a roll up sectional. Just found out the town bylaws won't permit the size of garage i want to add to my existing garage, so this changes what my first door requiremnts will be.

I would like to install a canopy up & over style door. I like the 1/3 outside overhang and less door inside blocks less light fixtures. Plus no overhead tracks. Any help with US hardware or doors manufactures would be great. Seems like they are mostly in the UK.
