I was looking at Facebook marketplace and found a Quincy 325 for sale at a good price. Only rub is it has a 3PH motor on it. Anyone have a good source to get a quality motor for $500 or so?

I found this one: https://compressor-source.com/produ...tor-184t-frame-1750-rpm-single-phase-weg-new# Look like a good one? My planned use is home use, so shouldn't live a hard life. I don't mind changing to a smaller pulley to get the RPMs down closer to 400 - don't need all the CFM and quieter is nicer.

WEG is a motor made in Brazil. The company literally digs that motor out of the ground. They mine the iron ore and copper, smelt it, cast the iron, make the wire. I haven't seen a new one recently, they originally didn't alloy steel for the shells, so the whole thing was cast and heavy. That motor would serve your purpose, I wouldn't run it at 400 rpm, the compressor is likely splash oiled and needs to run to self oil. As a general rule, 1200 rpm is nominal for a 5 HP compressor. At least 650 rpm. I'd keep the RPMS close to what they were. Put the compressor in a lean-to if you can if the noise bothers you. Also, running a smaller pulley gives less pulley surface area for the belt to grip. Slipping belts get hot, catch fire.
I have a WEG 3 phase on my lathe running on a VFD. I don't know about running a compressor on a VFD, but in general compressors have a large inrush (starting) current, so that needs to be taken into consideration. If you want to keep the 3 phase motor. Does the compressor come with a magnetic starter?? If so, that will be a 3 phase starter. It would be good to use one. It is possible to use that starter on single phase, I'd consult a motor shop about which heaters to use and how to configure it. Hope this helps.
The pressure switch, if there's no mag starter, will not be rated for the ampere draw of a single phase motor. So you'll at the least need to buy a 5 HP rated pressure switch or use the 3 phase switch with a mag starter.
I looked but didn't see a shipping cost, likely expensive cause it's heavy. Jus' sayin'.

Be careful shopping for motors. A 5 HP motor should pull 20-25 amps at 230 volt. I was looking a while back and found a lot of motors rated under 20 amps and I was certain they were not 5 HP but advertised as such.
I would by a WEG motor, they are decent motors.

I have a cheap VFD running a Quincy QT5 for about 3 years now & couldn't be happier. It was a model listed as being designed for compressors & other high inrush devices.
Its great having it programed ramp up to speed instead of the jolt when it starts. Also variable speed with a dial so I have it slow & quiet when its just maintaining air, or overspeed it when sandblasting. I programed the min & max hz to roughly match the min & max rpm limits of the pump.

At this point, if something happens to my compressor, I don't think I'd consider a single phase replacement.

Interesting. I'll look into that. Especially if it costs the same or less as a decent 5hp single phase motor. Can anyone provide a source for such a VFD?

Thanks! I did some research and that one came well reviewed. I'm headed out of town for a couple months, I'll pick one up when I get home.

Be very careful about buying compressor duty motors from any manufacturer. What that means is they are not rated to run full time. If you intend to run something like a sandblaster for instance, you can burn out the motor.

I found this one too: https://www.homedepot.com/p/5-RHP-4...6jsR21g6E1ZTziKPZZembY3GIjcgjIfV_22uoEllOTVLE

I know Baldor is good stuff, but am concerned they may have low grade models to avoid. Anyone know anything about this one?
Per the sellers (Mat Products) answer regarding Baldor's model #... The Baldor catalog number for the 160-0291 motor is L1430T.

The L1430T is a great motor and that is a great price! (I just bought 2) The L1430 is a CONTINIOUS DUTY motor with a 1.15 service factor. 20.6 amp @ 230 volt. Google Baldor L1430T and check prices!
