I'm looking for a foam lined case to carry a 6" dial caliper and a 1" micrometer. I've tried contacting Starrett, Brown & Sharpe and Mitutoyo as they all sell caliper/mic kits in cases but I can't seem to find the cases alone. The red Starrett case for the S909Z set looks like the best protection. MSC has a Chinese case. Any other ideas?

This might sound crazy but every time I see my eye Doctor he always gives me free eyeglass cases (the ones in a hard case, not the soft kind), they might not work for large calipers but they would work for small ones. Well just a thought!

got a mill? 2 flute end mill and ply wood, you will be done in few minutes.

Yeah, I'd just make them out of wood. Either to fit the tools themselves, or to hold two chunks of foam.

I've considered making something out of wood however my table saw is apart right now, actually none of my woodworking tools are set up at the moment. So I know whatever I make I will not be satisfied with. Especially if I can buy a a pre-made case for under $20.

Any flat case will do, then get 3 pieces of foam sheet, one for the lid, one for the base, and then cut out the outline of the tools using a razor blade on the third piece of foam, that one should be as thick as the tool itself.

Old metal cheapie socket set boxes come to mind as being about the right size, I must have 5 of them floating around the shop, might repurpose them, thanks for the idea!

Where are you carrying them to, or are you just wanting the cases to store them? If it quits raining and I get out to the garage, I'll check and see if I have a mic case and caliper case as I don't use mine. For me it's easier to drop them trying to get them out of a case than just picking them up out of a drawer

go to HF
buy their calapers on sale in the case
take their calapers out and put yours in
keep their old calapers as knock around ones or sell them
