I'm tired of the cheap blue tarps self destructiong in the arizona sun after 3 months. Where can one find tarps that will take the sun for a couple of years?

I see a lot of 10-11 mil stuff online claiming to be weather proof and UV resistant. Is this good enough or do I have to step up another level? And where to get them?

47bob: has a point my dad always had true canvas tarps when he ran a wrecker service out of our service station back in the 50's, 60's and 70's.

i would think most any truck supply/truck stop might have them. they hold up well in the wind, rain, snow and sun. i mean, if they can withstand 70 mph winds while covering product for 3 to 5 days, they should be pretty sturdy.

There are about a zillion places that sell these online. Like a lot of commodities, it also looks like about half of those are just fronts for other sites using different names.

After checking prices AND shipping, I ordered a selection of 'super heavy duty' tarps from maxtools - all are either 11 or 12 mils. That's about double the normal stuff. Near as I can tell 'SHD' is about two steps up from the cheapos, while just under the real commercial stuff, which can get pricey real quick.

We'll see.

I have seen 18 wheelers with flat bed trailers and some framework with a fitted "tarp" over it. I always thought this would be good for a small utility trailer.

Any ideas where to find something like this ?

Most flat bed tarps for tractor trailers are designed to cover two rows of standard pallets from 6 to 8 ft tall and 40 feet long. Most also come with bungee tie downs along the lower edge. If your requirements fall along those parameters, your good to go.
Last time I bought a general purpose cloth tarp was from www.northerntool.com They also sell the same tarps at amazon.com
