I have a 6" Mitutoyo dial caliper that I have had for over 20 years that needs repair. Several years ago I dropped it on the ground and ever since, it has failed to return to zero. Does anyone have a good source for repair, or is it even worth it?

You can probably do it yourself:

There's plenty of other videos covering how to fix most problems with Mitutoyo dial calipers, too.

I would agree with a DIY repair, there are videos on how to reset the rack & pinion and to get the needle right on zero. The videos I viewed were related to Starrett dial-indicated calipers but I gotta believe the same principles apply.

Doesn't the bezel twist? If so, turn it to the "new" zero. Otherwise you can return it to original zero yourself with a technique found on Youtube.

Maybe I should have been more specific. The zero changes every time as well, so rotating the bezel is fruitless. I'll check out some of the suggestions here. Thanks.

If you pay shipping both ways, I can't see how this can be worth to fix vs $80-100 for a new one. And I'm all for fixing something if you can do it yourself, but would you take a $120 vacuum that didn't work to get repaired?

I have a similar $100 Mitutoyo caliper; and it's honestly no better than my HF $20 one.
