Where to hang the reel?

So, the new house has 13 ft ceilings in the garage, where the heck should I hang my air hose reel. If I mount on the ceiling I will need a LOT more hose and I just don't want to mount it that high up. I have concrete block construction so I guess I could go through the drywall and anchor it there but I wanted to see if you clever guys had any neat ideas.

I recently bought a used reel that is mounted on a small plate that is welded to a heavy tube about 2" OD. That slides inside a 2 1/2" tube welded to a base plate with mounting holes that I will bolt to the slab between my garage doors. The whole assembly is about 4 1/2 feet high and swivels to spool out the hose with ease.

Hope this helps,

Tom

My experience says it may work best by the main door. If it's a big shop, then more than one may be required. But if it's way in the back and you have to drag bikes, mowers, basketballs, etc all the way to the reel, it'll be danged inconvenient.

Mine is mounted in the middle of my shop. My ceilings are only 8'. I'm 6'5" and can wall under it without hitting my head yet can still reach it with no problem. Being in the middle of the side of my shop. the 25' hose can reach most places. The only thing that was disappointing with this Craftsman Air hose is the actual hose leaks (hose itself, not at the fittings)after a couple of years of use. I got a new hose but have yet to install it, not exactly sure how to take it apart and not have springs flying out everywhere

With a 13 ft ceiling vs. an 8 ft ceiling, you are going to loose 5 ft of hose maximum! With a 50 ft hose, I doubt that is a major issue...

I mounted mine on the lift arm, about eight ft up, but the ceiling would have worked for me, just would have been harder.

Mine leaks sometimes around the inner connection - I put a gate valve on every port anyway to shut off anything connected.

I plan to have three air hose reels in my 24x40, all mounted at ceiling height. One near the main roll-up door (in the 24' end of the building), one midway down one 40' side, and one on the back wall, near the end of my workbench. So far I have found two good ones at estate/auction sales, so I need one more.

Mine is dead in the middle of my 24x24 10' ceiling. It's a large one I got at tractor supply. It has a movable rubber bumper on it so you can adjust how much hose hangs out of the reel when it's retracted. I have it in the center so my 50' hose can go anywhere in the shop and reach the whole way out into the driveway, no problem. For what it's worth, I should also say that I really like the reel. Nice smooth pay out and return. Well built. Mine looks like this:

Under my Bench right next to the Pump. It reaches just to the edge of the other side of the shop. I use a different Hose if I am going outside the shop anyways.
