I'm doing the wiring in my new detached garage. At some point I will put in a 2 post lift. I know where it will go. I was going to lay in the wiring now in preparation for powering the lift. After finishing the wiring I will insulate and put up walls, so I want to lay this in now. Where on the wall should I put the junction box for the lift power? For now it will just be in the box with a cover, wire nuts on each wire, and the breaker shut off.

TIA

If the ceiling is not too high, you could put you junction box right above the post that the motor will be on. That way you could just drop straight down.

The ceiling will be too high, and its metal ceiling. But based on your comment, should I put the box 12' high on the wall? I expect the right post to be a couple of feet off the wall. I still haven't figured out what lift I'll be getting, so I don't know if different manufactures take power in different spots. But if I start high up and just run the wire in the air the 2 feet to the top of the post and then run it down to the power unit. Or would the wire hanging in the air be a no-no? Should I then mount the box low on the wall so the wire can be run along the ground?

No, because it would create a trip hazard.

If the wall is to covered, then you could run a conduit up to 12' and stub it out parallel to the wall.
Then when actually have the lift in place you can run it nearest to the post.

A lift is one of the things you're permitted to hardwire with cord rather than conduit. 2' of it 12' up isn't going to do any damage.

EDIT: After conduit is run you need to pull in the wire :Toilet:
