Hi group,

I am in the process of finalizing my pole barn and I see that many builders either sub out overhead doors or leave it to the customer to find someone. I have heard that the company "Overhead Doors" is often over priced. It seems the big box stores are not much better. Any suggestions on other places to buy? My thought is to install them myself. I have googled around some and most internet retailers do not list prices on the websites.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

I'm using "OverHead Door Company" roll-up doors on my existing shop, and will be getting three new ones for #2.

I also have a sectional 18' door of theirs on the house.

I like their product and service. They've been around here for at least 40 years and have a competitive price with independent door companies.

You probably want an insulated door. I don't need that here, that why I like the roll-up canister doors.

I like the "Ideal" brand 5 star commercial style. I have bought 7 of them in the last 10 years. They are insulated and have steel on the inside. There are many options for windows and tracks. I get mine from Menard's. Hope this helps

I like the "roll up" doors since they don't use up your ceiling space. When I built a garage a few years back, I ordered through Lowes when they had a coupon sale. It was delivered to my garage. I think a 10 x 10 door was about $600 in 2008. There are many "strengths" of doors though, so make sure you are comparing the same thickness, etc.

The "roll up" doors are not difficult to install, provided you have a means to lift the rolled up door to the header. You can not put them together and tip them up, the jam supports/legs/ guides provided will not take it. I used a scaffold and about 4 helpers. I've seen the installers do it, they use a genie lift.

thanks all, i have done some google searches. I thought I remembered seeing a post here that someone found a great internet retailer that was cheaper than most. I have called a few local shops and they are all about the same. I think I can save about 40% doing it myself.

Help your local economy and support the little guy. Internet is great if your saving a good buck but shop around. Compare prices, taxes, shipping, service, and such then buy.
