I have tried searching the forum with little luck and need some help. I am moving in a few weeks and our new home has a 3 car garage that is pretty wide open. I will use the space for woodworking and home improvement projects. I have a standard rolling tool cabinet, table saw, jointer, band saw, drill press router table etc. My wife wants the garage well organized and to be suitable enough to have block parties so all my tools and gear need to be in enclosed cabinets. My current shop utilizes mdf type cabinets from home depot. Where do I start? Steel vs MDF. Which system looks great but doesn't break the bank. I have a few design must haves no diamond plate and a light color. Is there a good comparison of the sytems out there? I also have 4 children with loads of toys and bikes that will in the garage. Any direction you can give me to look into materials and systems so I can begin a detailed plan would be very appreciated.

Many posts on here address this topics. Use the search function and you will find them. I always go with steel first then lower if price limits will be exceeded. In the end I like the strength and reliability of steel over anything else plus you can secure it very easily.

Sounds like a lot of nuisance work ahead of you when constantly moving things in and out again to do anything. You'll probably need to park the cars outside each time you want to use the wood tools, and have to put them away again each day so you can park the cars.
Good luck figuring out a suitable plan. Is there room to build a separate shop, that way you'll have room for all the family related stuff.

Honestly, I think that putting a woodworking shop in your existing space is going to be an exercise in frustration for both you and your spouse. You'll be constantly moving stuff around and contending with dust and chips no mater how efficient your dust collection is.
If you are considering investing in pre-made storage or investing the time to make your own pieces, I'd suggest taking that money and effort and put up a small wood shop on the property some where. You could even use a well made pre-built shed as a start.

Use your basement if you have one. Trying to multipurpose a "dedicated" shop area will be nothing but frustrating. Moving damn near everything every time you want to use the garage as a grarge or for entertaining will just plain ****.
