As we all know Easco was one of the many Dahner brands. The parts store where I worked and got my Easco tools is long gone.

1. Is Dahner selling Easco branded tools today?

2. Anyone recently got a warranty exchange on an Easco?

It's now under the KD Tools brand as I understand it, and at least back in 2009, KD handled the warranty exchanges (source).

Ok, got a question,,, is it worth the effort?

That all depends on how expensive a new tool is and how difficult the warranty process is for that tool. If you pay money for a tool that has a lifetime warranty and it breaks, not I recently bought a cheap magnetic pick up tool to have at home. I pulled it all the way out and tried to put it back in and it folded in half, just cheap thin metal. It wasn't worth my time to return it or send it in for warranty. But I did take 2 minutes one night to email the company and they sent me out a new one right away. I could have just said screw it cause it wasn't worth my time but two minutes got me a new one. Not sure how long it will last but for the time being I have a new one.

I broke an easco 3/8 drive swivel socket 4-5 weeks ago

I carried it to my local Napa as they sell Armstrong, Gearwrench and other apex brand tools to see what they could do with it.

I just picked the replacement--Apex sent a gearwrench swivel socket, so it appears that easco tools still can be warrantied.

I did trade in a USA made tool and got an outsourced one though. I suppose I should start a gripe thread over it as that seems to be the thing to do here

I'm satisfied that it was replaced

That is neat. I have ran in to a few Easco things, it was a second rate line back in the day as far as I know. The ratchets had a limited lifespan. Worked a place they just thru them away. They were pretty dry though, oil might have helped? The place we used them never wore them out, have seen some of those that migrated to local shops and they didnt last long. They may have made a couple models too who knows. It seems to me like I can recall as a kid a line of SK and Easco in an auto parts store. The farm store might have sold it too.

With stuff like that if it works it works if it doesnt it doesnt, I am not going out of my way to haul back a HF screw driver either.

I don't know if I would call Easco a second rate tool line. The stuff I have that is Easco has held up pretty damn good and I'm not a tool polisher.

They made some good tools but I am here to tell you that they would never win any beauty contest, darn things reminded me of the barcalo line...

Easco did fill some military contracts for 1/2" drive sets, couldn't be all that bad.

I'm sure they were in line with Craftsman and Armstrong of the time.

My set (1/2" drive) when I was in the Army was 90% Easco, the rest K-D. The tool crib stuff was a mixture of Easco, K-D, and some other brand, Thorsen, I think.

Your mileage may vary. The reason you got a replacement for an Easco tool is that you bought it from Napa. Or at least turned it in there. Napa will go the extra mile to get you a suitable replacement for a damaged tool. I had a very old Napa ratchet (could have been Easco, sure looked like it) which I took in to Napa for a repair kit. I had that ratchet for at least 15 years, probably longer. Unable to source the kit, Napa provided me with a replacement ratchet (US made, no less, shocking!!!).

So again, Napa treats its customers well.

Have dealt with this exact situation. Busted a 1-3/16 easco. Called apex/ danner, lady says take it to Fastenall and they will replace it with gear wrench. Being a proud U.S. citizen, I requested an American made replacement. She reluctantly said they would do it with Armstrong. I got on armstrongs site, and got my own part # for replacement. Went to fasten all and explained to them that I had contacted apex and what they had said. Man said no problem, and I gave him the part # and he says we don't have that one in stock, will have to order. Now here's the kicker, it took about 2-3 weeks for it to come in but when it did they called me at home to let me know it was in. If you need phone# for apex let me know and I'll find it for you. And yes, the r.h.f.t. Ratchets they made were some of the finest ever I.m.o.:pimpflash

I did not buy it from them, not sure where it came from as I had for years and years, but I would tend to agree with you that the local Napa went the extra mile. They are really good folks there.

I to agree Napa does their customers right, well at least the ones around here do

I don't know about that. This pair of EASCO rats that I've picked up over the past 6 months or so are real beauties. I'm not an "ergo, full-polish" type of guy, but these paintbrush handle rats are real nice to hold. Too bad I can't get repair kits for them, or I'd use them more often.

Easco is a second line, I understand the military contracts, I have seen them on those jobs too, the sockets have been ok but thats the reason there are no reman kits and the reason he wants them. They were a ratchet no one wanted to steal. I have seen some of that thorsen, about the same deal, nothing fundamentally wrong with it. Sockets and extensions are service worthy tools.

I know this is an old post but I had an easco ratchet go bad and thought I would contribute. I don't understand the lack of love for easco on here (and Thorsen for that matter)...I thought they were pretty good tools. My 1/4 drive easco ratchet broke the bearing inside. At first I thought I would fix it per the many videos on youtube. But they are a PIA to get apart and put back together.....not worth it. On a whim I called Napa....they thought it was funny to hear that the tools had a lifetime warranty and were sold at Napa 40 or more years ago. But they did say they would honor it and trade for their tool brand (Carlyle). On research, I have found the Carlyle tools are made in china. SO you can't really win! ; )

be more than happy to fix you up with a nice set of shiny Easco 1/4" drive tools if I can find it.....

(okay... now that I looked through my "Easco" folder it looks like there may well be more than one set of Easco 1/4" drive around here... )
