I have what I believe is a "dryer" and was wondering where in the setup these normaly would be placed?.

Is it between the compressor and tank, or is it after the tank and out ?.

Eventually could it be placed anywhere on the "line" - or should it be close to the tank ?..

Mine is called Ultrafilter HED 0348, the pic is a 0150 - not sure what the difference is, but they look much the same at least :)

Usually, the driers are placed as far downstream (away from the compressor) as practical, which gives the metal pipe between them a chance to cool the air and condense the water contained therein.

Given the above, It all depends on how much air is being used. Is it constant or are you trying to keep the air dry in your reservoir/tank. If you keep it dry before the tank, then the tanks would not need to be drained of moisture very often. If you are a one man shop in a very humid area, maybe plumb the dryer after the compressor and before the tank. If you are a bigger shop, like Maj. Ram says you give some distance to let the air cool before you ring out the water.

thnx for the reply - going to set it up at home garage, but nor sure if I'l set up the dryer - was given a couple of IR 3 cylinder compressors and this unit came with em - I guess they produce around 3m^3 air each.

Would it be beneficial to set up the dryer at all ?.

Mostly gona be used to air tools and sandblasting

Depends on how hot and how long the compressor runs and what your humidity is like. I have a 5hp 175psig 80gal Sears Pro compressor and when I run my blast cabinet the compressor cycles on and off, it doesn't run on and on after the initial pressure drop. I didn't have any water trap at all until I bought/built the blast cabinet. I installed a 3/4 water trap between the tank and the line running in the shop and it works fine. Try to run without it, you could save yourself a bunch on money.
