This and a 24" breaker bar for those stubborn watch battery screws.
When I see absurd things like this I wish I could have been a fly on the wall during the meeting where this was discussed as a potential new product.
Clueless bean counter Boss: "We need a 1/2" drive bit for .070" screws." Yes man: "Right boss, great idea, my department will get right on it." All at the table nod in agreement.

Doesnt make much sense to me either. Generally people either have all drive sizes, or skip 3/8 and do a 1/4 and 1/2 set.

I dont think anyone would do 1/2 only. Only thing is maybe you dont have really long 1/4" extensions and you need to hit something far away that's a small Philips and you have really long 1/2 drive extensions.

But I guess that's why it's discontinued, it's not real useful.

I bought a torx bit set in 1/2" drive by mistake. I HATED that mistake every time I used it

eventually I bought a 3/8" drive set instead. Even that, half of it could be 1/4" drive instead

I don't know why, but Tekton does this with nearly all of their bit drive sockets- stuff like 1/2 drive T30 or 6 mm hex, 1/4 drive 8mm hex...

The earliest 1/2" drive Indestro socket sets included a 5/16" 6-point.

All things come full circle - it's just how the universe works.
So we are now seeing the reappearance of a Swedish pipe wrench design invented a century ago - being introduced as a "new product".

There is nothing new under the sun.

Maybe their marketing people got a hair up their *** one morning and said "Hey, let's try this."

I've seen screwier.

IIRC, what I did was to buy a Tekton 1/4 drive set, and then ~3 singles each in 3/8 and 1/2 to fill it out.

This is where Vim has Tekton beat IMO- you can buy one set and they increase drive sizes at about the appropriate bit sizes. Granted, since this is GJ someone will say that they use a 1/2 drive T30 all the time, but for the rest of us a Vim all in one set makes more sense.

^ I have a "Great Neck" set of Torx bits that starts at 1/4" drive and goes up to 3/8" drive on the larger sizes, but not up to 1/2". Believe it or not, all the bits have held up quite well.

That's the 5/16 X 1/2" I was referring to.

I know I also have a 10mm X 1/2" around here--possibly more than one.

So is it 1/4 hex or 5/16?

Maybe combined with a knurled spinner, inertia will let it remove screws from a phone with a single spin.

More likely boss says: "We need a 1/2 drive set of bits in all the common sizes" and the yes man delivers the message to the designers "we need 1/2 drive bits in ALL the sizes" figuring if he exceeds expectations he'll get a prize :rolleyes:. Meanwhile the yes man hasn't ever nor will ever hold one of their products in his hands.

Although looking at it, I kind of want to order one - just for the conversation piece, lol.

Edit: aaaand I just did - what a *******. 😄

but awful close, considering a 10mm fastener is usually used on a 6mm bolt.

"Hey! This 10mm is pretty stuck. Hand me the 10mm and the 24" breaker bar!"
