Where's the Spiro-Grip love?

GJ doesn't seem to have any posts about the beautiful Stanley Spiro-Grip screwdrivers.

I just found a #1258.

The only thing I've seen online is a 1953 advertisement to dealers (attached) and a 1955 PayLess Drug Store advertisement in an Oregon newspaper where a set of 6 was on sale.

Mine does not have "USA" on it anywhere. The only identification is "Spiro Grip 1258". Not even a Stanley name. Wonder where these were made?

I can’t say I have ever even seen one of those before. It’s super cool though and I will be keeping an eye out for them now.

I've got a few, but they are not marked.



edit - these appear to have more ribs and no evidence of paint between them. I wonder if they were made by Spiro-Grip, or possibly by someone else.

I was actually looking for this thread a few months ago, but couldn't find it. I have a red one that I got a while back, unbranded though. After looking in some catalogs and Fuller made a copy of the Spiro-Grip. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of mine and it's at another house, but here's a couple of screen shots of the 1959 Shapeleigh catalog, and a picture of my 1965 Herman Bearing Cortes catalog.
And now that I have found out that Stanley made the (presumably) original Spiro-Grip, I have to add it to my Stanley screwdriver history.

I found another Spiro-Grip and doubled the size of my collection. This one is a 1256 and is 6.7" overall length.
