which 1/2" drive to 1/4 hex bit adapter?

i was looking at the Milwaukee 48-03-4410 Shockwave 1/2-Inch Square by 1/4-Inch Hex Adapter and the Wera Female Square 784 C/1 Quick-Release Chuck, Adaptor 1/4" x 1/2" Drive. Can either of these be used with the shorter 1/4" hex screwdriver bits and longer power bits with the bigger groove? i have a MILWAUKEE 2655-20 18V LITHIUM ION 1/2" IMPACT WRENCH

i have the Milwaukee shockwave one in 3/8. i believe you need to use the bits with the groove in them. i can check at work if you want. note that the square drive has detents in it like a chrome socket in addition to the pin hole.

I have the same one as reptilezs. Mine "broke" the first time I used it... the sleeve pops off when using it. I can pop it back on, but it comes off as soon as I use it. I pretty much never use it, so I haven't bothered swapping it to see if others have the same problem, especially since no one local sells it.

Anything *can* be used with 1" bits, but you lose retention unless the adapter has a magnet or clip ring, which I don't think the Milwaukee has, if any do. I always use 2" power bits or real socket bits (my preference) anyway, so it's never bothered me.

Those detents will tear up hog ring retainers on impact guns; it happened to me the first time I put the adapter on my M12 impact gun . Works fine with ball retainers.

yea i bought the adapter thinking it was built like a normal impact socket with smooth walls inside.
