There is nothing wrong with Goodman - they only have a bad reputation because they will sell to anyone so they are the trunk slammer's brand of choice. As other's have said, a properly installed Goodman will outperform and outlast an improperly installed top-of-the-line unit.
Just had the capacitor replaced in our Goodman at the Tucson house. It’s been 100-102 for a week here.
The date on the data plate was 2007, so it’s original to the house. We bought it seven years ago, at which time I told my wife to budget for a new a/c unit.
19 years is pretty good for an a/c in Tucson. I assumed it was low on charge since we’ve done no maintenance on it. A start capacitor is a quick and inexpensive repair.
That said, she does have money set aside, since it can’t last forever.
