There is nothing wrong with Goodman - they only have a bad reputation because they will sell to anyone so they are the trunk slammer's brand of choice. As other's have said, a properly installed Goodman will outperform and outlast an improperly installed top-of-the-line unit.

After some thought I am replacing the unit with a Trane 3 ton …did some negotiating and got the entire new system under 10k …10yr warranty . Hopefully I get another 12+ years out of the new system…this company had the best warranty of the 5 estimates I got …they are installing it this morning. Thanks for everyone’s advice .

Glad you are getting it done. I assume you are getting some sort of furnace also for that price?

Hopefully you get a lot more than 12 years out of this one!

Yes …heater included …the prices in Florida are insane..was quoted anywhere from 9600 - up to 19k for a 3 ton unit…I couldn’t put it off as the temps will be climbing soon .

Just had the capacitor replaced in our Goodman at the Tucson house. It’s been 100-102 for a week here.

The date on the data plate was 2007, so it’s original to the house. We bought it seven years ago, at which time I told my wife to budget for a new a/c unit.

19 years is pretty good for an a/c in Tucson. I assumed it was low on charge since we’ve done no maintenance on it. A start capacitor is a quick and inexpensive repair.

That said, she does have money set aside, since it can’t last forever.
